| My interpretation of this is that 'she' is realizing, in her relationship, that she's made a mistake and it's better for her to realize this truth rather than everyone else telling her. She also refers to love being raw and young - innocent in a way. What strikes me when she sings "We believedd that we could change ourselves, the past could be undone, but we carry on our backs the burden, time always reveals." I think it signifies that what we bring into a relationship or marriage will eventually catch up to both partners and that when it irks both partners, they begin a downward spiral of trouble. What else is striking "I'm lost to those I thought were friends, to everyone I know. Oh they turned their heads embarassed, pretend that they don't see, but it's one missed step you'll slip before you know it. And there doesn't seem a way to be redeemed." Perhaps the friends were advising the marriage/relationship was a "no-go" and that it wouldn't succeed. It is possible that she sought out their advice - to even just vent - but they grew tired, after telling her the relationship/marriage should be called "done". So now, she's a walking embarassment to her friends. All in all, it sings poetry of "bad" choices made. | |

I'll admit, this song really hits deeply. I can relate - as most all of us can. My version of interpretation is simply this: "Time here all but mean nothing, just shadows that move cross the wall. They keep me company but they don't ask of me, they don't say nothing at all." - This could symbolize the need for solitude as shadows don't press any issues. "I need just a little more silence, I need just a little more time." - The first part could signify that perhaps, though she's alone, he/she is still there; presence alone can disturb the silence that is already there. The second - obviously a choice or decision is needed to be made. "You send your thieves to me, silently stalking me, dragging me into your war." - "Thieves" could possibly mean arguements or subtle hints of the current decision/choice (war). "Would you give me no choice in this?" - Obvious the decision/choice she needs to make seems a little one side from the other party. "I know you can't resist trying to re-open a sore" - Bringing up something or issue from the past. "So leave me be, I don't want to argue. I just get confused and I come all undone. If I agree well it's just to appease you, 'cause I don't remember what we're fighting for." - Obviously she doesn't want to argue about the issue; she's confused with what decision to make. "You see love a tight thorny thread that you spin in a circle of gold. To have me to hold me, a token for all to see, captured to by your's alone." - She's married and he's displaying her. Tight and thorny signifying that she's not comfortable with the "fit" of marriage. "For courage to pull away, there will be hell to pay, deeper you cut to the bone." - Signifying she wants to leave, but knowing the consequences. So, overall, it is about her deciding on whether or not to stay or to leave. |

When I first heard this song, it struck to me - as all certain pieces of music does us all. When I "interpreted" it in my own vision, I didn't feel it had anything to do with two people. Not entirely. For me, I take the interpretation as "A Battle of One"; as though the "two people" you all are refering to, may actually be him speaking of himself. It's as though, being alone for so long, so he created another "personality" in order to keep himself less alone. Therefore, as time went on, both sides of his personality that fighting over existence - ". . . becoming less defined as days go by". Then upon finding the scap, realizing that the whole of himself is not pretty at all - he has just figured who he really is. This interpretation of it is just something personal I gain from listening to this song. For awhile, it defined my life as I was - and am still - trying to find out who I am, as well as to figure what I am. |
