I can see how it could be about his youth. But i think like all their songs it is very ambiguous as to what it could actually mean. That's what i like about Portugal. the man, their songs are so universal in their tones and meanings. To me the satanic satanist as a whole seems sort of like a direction down a new path for them. And that's reflected in the undertones of many of the songs. I feel like through the lyrics and the more 123 123 beats their asking us listeners to decide the fate of their band. I don't think we can compare the deepness of The satanic satanist with Censored colors, censored colors is a work of art. Satanic satanist is beautiful but i feel like they're catering to what the listeners want. They care more about the fans then they do themselves, they want to please the people. If more people like things like Satanist and American Ghetto then they'll continue to make more music like that, because that's what they're about, i believe. Back to the undertones of satanist, i feel like i can't just name out the specific instances of where i get this feeling of separation from previous ideas by the band, but i know it's there in every song on this album. Next time you listen through the album compare it to previous albums, then listen to it again, and pay attention to the lyrics. It's speaks to the spirit. As for this song lol, I interpret it as being away from someone you care for. The remembrance of happier times, but the slow progression of time without the ones you love. Longing for the past and wanting the future. But inevitably when we wish to much, we are usually let down. "when i lived in the woods everything was all right, everything everybody was all right" It's like in his seclusion everyone he had lived with previously, in his mind, was peaceful and happy. But in reality he had no way of knowing so he starts to doubt himself. "we'll never see all your love" |
