Basically, you live life normally, but occasionally you can't help but think pessimistic thoughts. You can't help but think about how wrong things can go, and how crushed you'd be if your significant other didn't love you like you loved them. In the chorus, the speaker reiterates this and takes these pessimistic thoughts further from just dwelling on small things, and wonders how they would live if they hadn't even ever met their significant other. And the thoughts obviously bother them. |

You're pretty way off.. Ripped knees. When kids ran around on the playground, the would sometimes fall and then rip the knees of their jeans/pants. Ripped knees most likely refers to past failures or broken hearts. The left side is where the heart is. It has nothing to do with the wedding ring, or a man buying a woman objects..
