This song is very powerful and amazing, as every other tool song is!!! I love listening to the live version of the song that I have picked up (great quality). Did you know that when they do this song live they include extra lyrics right before the epic "I have found some kind of temporary sanity in this" part! goes like this! The feeling that I have taken from this song is the feeling of guilt or like everything has failed around you. You just want to take it all back, but you can't. So instead you drown your sorrows away by getting high or drinking. I also took the feeling that he is mad at religion for allowing this to happen. Because of these past failures you feel like you will just hurt everyone or let them down. So all you can do is get high or drink. I always find myself compulsing over things I have done wrong in the past. I really like songs you can take your own meaning out of them when you apply your own experiences to them. ------------------------------------------------- I don't really have a favorite tool song, because each and everyone is well thought out and perfectly preformed and arranged IMO. They each bring a different mood and feelings. I would have to say I find myself listening to Ænima more than the other albums, but it really just depends on my mood. |

I really like when you can drag multiple meaning out of one song. I really like several of the others interpretation. I like thinking of fictitious meanings as well as realistic views so here is what I got... My fictitious view was that it could be kind of like a science fiction story were an organization is trying to brain wash a group of people (or everyone) and create some sort of super soldier. Turns out the brain washing doesn't work on this individual and they fight back being the last free mind. (like a Wolverine story) My realistic view was that he is the last to fight for their freedom from the government, press, and everything that has some form of control over there life. I also thought it might be a shot that Alice in Chains is one of the last bands to carry on that true grunge sound without changing like STP... (but now Soundgarden is back too!!! YEAH!) When I heard "Smash all the temples" I immediately thought of someone smashing through peoples skulls. witch added to my fictitious meaning. Seeing that others take it as a religious temple definitely adds more possibilities that did not even think of. |
