listen again. he's describing the depth, the power of his love and need for her. No threat here, to her or anyone else, unless being consumed and devoured by your true companion's loving arms can be construed as a "threat." |

Jumping through the screen with the intention of a serious choke-hold was also my first reaction - but I'm a lady now - can't act like that anymore. I understood this song the first time I heard it(1974). Bought the "album" immediately. Never wondered whether she was talking about herself or someone else, her description was real, powerful. I was living well outside the parameters of "normal" - alchohol was my best, only friend then, and for years to come (eighteen years sober - out for seven - 16 months into recovery now). Way back when and now - I too find "it tires/scares me to the ignorance of most people." Looked up the lyrics to print out and send to my son (serious meth addiction and other related problems)-in prison right now (again). Always looks, talks good when he's clean. We talk/write/share - good communication. I am aware that there is no "magic" in songs/lyrics/meanings. However, having been strongly affected, myself, by descriptive lyrics such as these, no harm in sharing my experience, strength and hope? |
