| I think that this song is about a girl who falls in love with a boy who she thinks is absolutely tops, however he uses her and ends up not being what she thought "you left me in the dark". The girl's hurt, but she uses her hurt, pain and suffering to become stronger and she grows and learns from this pain. And just as she's piecing her life back together, he calls out for her again, saying he's weak and needs her. And she goes back to him "always in this twilight, in the shadow of your heart". It's that type of love when you are stuck in a rut, a never ending cycle of emotional pain yet this person is so glorious that you can't bear to lose them | |

I agree that it can be about two people who are in love and are seperated, or someone whos love is becoming distanced. However, my interpretation is that it could be about loneliness and isolation of the self. Maybe some big event happens and you shut of from the world "I was standing on the surface of a perforated sphere, When the water filled every hole" or maybe it's just the transition from an extrovert into an introvert, someone who feels that they can no longer relate to the people around them. This person looks out from their little island, watching everyone in their boats having a good time and realises just how lonely and isolated they have become, realising that they have built a moat around themselves. It seems too hard for this person to 'walk across the flatlands' and the distance is far too much so all they can do is call out to those who love them "I need you so much closer". They need anyone close to them as they have become so lonely and isolated by themselves and it seems almost irreversible. This song gives me shivers every time. So fucking beautiful. |
