| The Avett Brothers – Good To You Lyrics

This is a personal song, through and through. I believe this is Scott addressing his struggles with being a good husband in the wake of his brother's failed marriage (if you notice Seth doesn't sing at all on this song) which I think could easily strike home when you can't avoid being away from your family. The heart breaking part of the song is Bob's singing part, in light of his daughter's struggle with brain cancer, it's just seeping with such emotion and poignancy. |

Can't help but think this is about Jennifer Carpenter (Seth's new girlfriend) and the path of celebrity. "Another is waiting" to take your place in the fame game and basically this sounds like he wants to be the solution for her to move away from that path. It could also be deeper in terms of the Avett's rising fame. I think this album in particular is a clash back away from the spotlight, compared to "The Carpenter" being full of very produced mainstream radio songs and this one being more intimate and true to themselves. |

| Bright Eyes – Triple Spiral Lyrics

Biggest lyrical correction: Maiden Mother Crow is actually Maiden, Mother, Crone. I thought at first it was crow as well, however after just wiki'ing some of the major ideas of this song, I found that this song references neopagan theology. Maiden, Mother, Crow is the "Threefold Goddess" which is also represented by the "triple spiral" symbol.
This is a simply awesome album, just based on the material that Conor references... an interesting (and biting commentary?) mixing classic scifi literature and theological ideas. |
