Snow Patrol – New York Lyrics 14 years ago
Correction to my last post: the lyrics are "ever thus", not "ever us"... I listened and realized it makes more sense.
It also may be "eke of the ocean" instead of "ache"? Can someone with official lyrics and/or a northern irish accent help out?

What Gary says about the song:
"I'm really happy with the words," says Gary. "I always try to write about personal experiences - New York is about a girl I was seeing over there. We both had strong feelings for one another, but we were never in the same place at the same time. It's about missed opportunities.

Snow Patrol – The Weight of Love Lyrics 14 years ago
This one is intriguing to me because I don't quite understand it.
It seems like it's about a relationship with a girl who likes to argue...

"You love it when we lose our minds
You love these little wars of words"
"Because fear and anger they are a law unto themselves"

Or perhaps about the freedom of the relationship they have

"My heart is thumping I can feel it in my fingers
No fear no anger we are a law unto ourselves"
"A new empire beckons a new kingdom in the distance
No gods are present just the sky the earth and us"
[As if the kingdom is theirs and they can do whatever they want, because no gods.

This could also perhaps explain "the weight of love"... with nobody else to tell you what to do with it, the weight of love is all yours to carry... they seem to enjoy the weight of love.]

Awesome song.

The girl has gone to New York and left him behind.

[Possible corrections- "nights" and "ache"]
"The lone neon (n/l)ights and the ache of the ocean
and the fire that was starting to spark
I miss it all, from the love to the lightning"

"If our hearts are never broken THEN there's no joy in the mending
THOUGH there's distance and there's silence...."

[I thought the correct lyrics were "lone neon nights", as in nights in the city by yourself. I think the word is also "ache" instead of heat... it's got a little irish accent on it ("eche") and ache is used in a lot of gL songs.]
They had a very passionate relationship and perhaps fought often [love is love... lightning is fighting]
and by the end we know the passion is gone [the fire that was starting to go out.]

Second verse:
"IN the arms" instead of "of the arms".
I also thought it was "us" instead of "thus" but both make sense...

[Possible corrections- "and" and "mad"]
"Just give me a sign
there's an end and a beginning
to the quiet chaos driving me mad"
He's unsure if the relationship is really over or not... he still loves her and is battling to give up his feelings but cannot.
The emotion is expressed perfectly and we get the most accurate decsription of that desperate-wishful feeling ("quiet chaos".)
Beautifully written song.

Snow Patrol – The President Lyrics 14 years ago
I've run to ground
I've run from everyone that I have ever known
I'm aching cold
I'm aching from the bones the very blood of me

[the drum beat picks up through the first chorus like a heartbeat, it would make sense that "it" refers to a heart...]
"And it's broke before you know it
Before you knew what it was for
All you know is you can't fix it"

And you wish you'd listened more
To your instincts to your family
To the wisdom you'd ignored
Are you finally gonna ask us for help?
[It seems almost as if the song is narrated from a split perspective, verses being one person
and the chorus being the person or people reaching out to them]

I've crashed to earth
But I'd fallen for so long that it was just relief
I saw your face
In everyone that looked me in my drunken eyes
[what a wonderful few lines...]

I feel like it's about someone who has gone astray or down the right path and is trying to find a way to get back to their old life. In the verses you have them narrating, and in the chorus their friends and family calling them back home.
Anyways I have had this song on repeat constantly... beautiful songwriting and lyrics.

The Beatles – Hello Little Girl Lyrics 14 years ago
This was John's first original song; it was written when he was 18.
During this time, John and Paul were still the Quarrymen and rehearsing at Paul's house.
