First Aid Kit – Marianne's Son Lyrics 10 years ago
Clearly, Marianne's son "left", and she is not able to move on from it. I think he committed suicide, based on the words "magically appear" at the beginning, and the writer's repeated use of the word "killing".

Also, "You have to believe when they say he didn't leave because of you or me" shows the mother is fighting against blaming herself, which is naturally what any loving mother would have to do.

The author is trying to convince the mother to accept his loss and move on.

@[wordsaslight:6544] One of their very best both musically and lyrically. Lovely analysis, thank you for sharing!

Bon Iver – Beth/Rest Lyrics 13 years ago
Hi, check 20:07 here (after watching the whole thing, of course) to see that it really is "soffit".

Beach House – 10 Mile Stereo Lyrics 15 years ago
Gorgeous song, but I think it's a break up/lament song. Use of past tense, "stone"= hard, "fell". It (the love) can't be gone, we're still right here (still alive but not together). The writer's love endures but the relationship's over. Hope I'm wrong!

Bon Iver – A Song for a Lover of Long Ago Lyrics 15 years ago
This one hits home for me, the girl from long ago that you cut loose for (probably) the right reasons, but can't ever truly get over. My favorite verse by far:

Rain you out of me
shake a memory free
can't squash the molten soul
can't chase away the hole

Poetry.
