The first commenter is right. It's "Huskey makes the turn and heads for home", and I always thought it was "outside eyes cease to exist". I love love love this album and song -- perfect snapshots of the daily ups and downs of a relationship in the storytelling. Beautiful. |

Best Sloan song ever. Totally hooked me the first time I heard guys singing, in three part harmony, the words "I'm a girl, I'm a girl, la-la!!" Then you listen to the whole song, and think, how incredibly clever it is to have an indie rock song, for a North American audience, sung from the perspective of essentially non-English-speaking children. That's imaginative.

| Sloan – The Lines You Amend Lyrics

The song is written and sung by Jay, not Chris. I love Chris too, but credit where credit is due. There's a vid on YT of just Jay and Chris performing this song at a radio station promo. Not the greatest version, but this song lives on forever for anyone who listens closely to it. It's really beautiful, and so distinctly human how a song can bring back the closest remembrance of someone who has gone on. Sloan. Live on, indeed.

| Guided by Voices – I Am A Tree Lyrics

"Remember me to one who lives there" is a copy from Scarborough Fair by Paul Simon. I actually only noticed that some years after I already knew and loved GBV and this song - caught an airing of The Graduate on cable and heard it, couldn't believe that this song came immediately to mind. Awesome reference.
I Am A Tree is a fantastic, fantastic song about being more comfortable on one's own than as part of a duo, yet still recognizing the beauty of the lost partner, without holding anything against them. For some creatures (like the Tree), being "one" is the natural state. Rather poetic.
