I think it's remarkable to see that Nanna wrote this song, since Ragnar gets so emotional on all of the live footage from this song (especially the kexp sessions) This creates the thought that the song definately has some personal connection for Ragnar, which leaves to wonder whether Nanna wrote this just about Ragnars life, or whether it's about her life as well, and it's about a possible past they shared, though I believe it's the formal |

to me the song is defianately about the older brother killing the little brother. at least the surface is. the backyard thing could just be his consious. the box holds the baby body, and that will always be there. and when he says now where a family, it sounds pretty ironical to me, as if its not really ment. in other words, now that he's killed his brother the family is a complete mess. now i said at least the surface is, and with that i meant that theres probably a whole different meaning to this song and that its all just one big metaphor. I also feel as if Jack wants us to try to figure out the real meaning; when he says a bow with SOMETHING in it, you will start to wonder what's in the box, than you start looking for the meaning of the song, which is what we're all doing right here. Can someone please look more in to the reagan thing, I know nothing about this, since I wasn't born till 1995, and live in holland. |

I came here with a certain idea of meaning for this song, but reading the first page has really made doubt my idea. anyway, I think this song is about a guy being in love with a girl, for a long time, and than one night she comes over to his house, drunk, and he doesn't take advantage of her, because he decides that it would be better for them not to. Than the day after she’s grateful, and after a while they do hit off. The first verse sounds very passionate, with fire in nearly every sentence, but it starts with "and you said", which to me means that she was very passionate about him. "Like stars burning holes right through the dark" I love that metaphor for fire, but to me it also means that its night. "You were one inch from the edge of this bed" now everyone else interpreted this as her nearly leaving the bed, but my first idea was that she nearly slept with him. "I drag you back" meaning he stopped her, "a sleepyhead" meaning she was tired, and to me that’s because of the booze she'd been drinking. "They couldn't think of something to say the day you burst With all their lions and all their might and all their thirst They crowd your bedroom like some thoughts wearing thin Against the walls against your rules against your skin" to me this is about the guys who did sleep with her, you know, the tough guy, rich, mighty, and hungry for sex. Doing thing she didn't really want them to do, and when it comes down to the end of their relationship they'd have nothing to say to make her feel good. â€My beard grew down to the floor and out through the doors Of your eyes but go in disguise like a sleepyhead, sleepyheadâ€ To me this is about him having waited for her â€eyesâ€ but he covered it up. And than the second sleepyhead is just to end on the same thing again. Some of the ideas you people have are to extreme. Especially if what enjoyyourroots is true and he wrote this for his girlfriend as valentine gift |
