The song is about perception. There is a man too short(only as small as the world may make you seem) and a man too tall(only as tall as your heart will let you be) the short guy listens to the advice while the tall guy dreads it. The short guy is alittle to close to the ground(meaning reality). His heart won't let him be tall, but he likes the advice because he is able to look on the brightside. The tall guy is too out of touch with reality(in a world that's too defiant of his height). So he hates the advice because when he looks on the brightside he goes into dreamland,which doesn't help with problems he faces on earth. So the narrator is 6 feet tall, which is in the middle of too into reality and too out of touch with it. |

I know that she wrote this song for her band, but I interpet it differently. "and bring on all the pretenders, I'm not afraid!!" When I listen to it I feel like it's a story about best friends growing up and facing reality together. "we were the kings and the queens" and "I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you" reminds me of the way kids use their imaginations. "cuz for a moment a band of theives in ripped up jeans got to rule the world" that reminds me of them facing reality. "but if god forbid fate should step in, and force us into a good bye, if u have children someday, when they point to the pictures, please tell them my name" this reminds me of my bestfriend, who is gonna move. It tells me how I don't want to be forgotten by her. Lol yea it's kinda deep, but that's what the song makes me think of. |
