Don't you DARE link the Roots in with this guy. This guy is so emo. Incubus is ok, but this guy makes me want to yark. Reminds me of my ex-husband. Always with the gloom. |

For the life of me, I don't get these stupid lyrics. I think it is EXACTLY about someone liking someone. And for whatever reason, he won't say he likes her. Too much of a chicken shit? But if he wants another day per se, then how can he make her promise something, if he can't even write to her? It is all this emo angst shit that just drives me batty. "Will not explain, will not explain". x10 How F*cking noble of him. If he can't talk to her--who can he talk to? What is he doing with her? Why is he with her? Bet he has TONS of people he could talk to, tons of other women, but he does not want them--he wants the one he can't talk to, the one he puts on a pedastal, and the one he won't ever get because deep deep down inside, he doesn't want her--it is the eternal chase. B O R I N G. I didn't even like the tune. The lyrics were repetitive and I would rather listen to Manilow. |

No--because this song is repetitive, stalkerish, and a rip-off of the Beatle's song: "I've just seen a Face" like Mike above said. I think it was over played, and too cute-sey, it made me want to gag every time it came on, and if some guy told me to be "good" for TWO years, I would tell him to bite me. I want to scream when I hear this song. Blahhhhhh! |

Hell this band rocks. Never listened to them be4 today and I love these lyrics, the sound--all of it! This is about love---simple, pure, and if someone had wrote it for me, I would fall into their arms! |

I am torn. This is the first time I have listened to it. I really liked it. I think I have to agree with the child abuse interpretation. You think your parents wear a crown, when you are young, but then it falls off. But it happened once to me And this will never be same The ends we seam together This couldn't be about Revolution and government. It seems more likely about abuse, and how one goes about pulling yourself together. That is just my thoughts. |

Isn't that what so many lyrics do though? Think of Prince and "1999"--those words seemed simple enough, but really were meant towards Reagan and what was going on at the time. Or "Turning Japanese"..I don't mean to be crude, but I think by now most people know what those lyrics are in reference to, and I am not talking about race in any manner. Of course people should read between the lines at times of lyrics, and at other times lyrics are quite straight forward. For example: The nonsensical Paul Anka's "Having My Baby"...which of course makes one want to vomit. ♥ |

It is about his mom. Read some of his biographies that are coming out now. And he had a HORRIBLE relationship with Charlie. E.S. was so intelligent but riddled by his past. It haunted him. This song touches me deeply. Makes me cry actually. What a waste of a wonderful talent. R.I.P. |

I think he has a lot more in him that he is trying to tell people than they listen to. Recently he said "we are just a country band and simple folk", but I, again, think they are not. This song is very deep, and very personal, and I imagine there is a story within a story about it. I imagine it is something that a mother has to do to support her children, and even though she is not letting on to the children, they/he knows, and while she does it to put the food, (collard greens), on the table, she suffers horribly for it. It might not be actually autobiographical, but maybe someone he knows, or from a friend? Their music is outstanding. Can't let a day go without listening to one song at least. |

I think what tcobo said sums it up well for the most part. Especially the part about being mad with anguish. It is also about unrequited love in whatever form. And since it is unresolved it makes the song all the more poignant. When a relationship is not resolved, it carries with it some pathos of agony. And that is what makes a song so appealing to so many. Because who among us does not have some feelings towards someone at some point in their life where they were not torn apart by love? The song is mellow, too, and that makes is sad, and slow and romantic. If it was screeched at you like some of the rap songs--it would not be so beautiful. The only lines I don't like: "The fact that you are married Only proves you're my best friend' Really? I think he/she should get over that! If they went and got married, or were married, I would suggest moving on. It does belie the first part of the song. However, it all ties up in that unrequited love part. And everyone wants what they can't have, so there you go. I really liked this whole CD. |
