| It could definitely be about religion also. I think he could pretty much be saying, prove it and I might believe you. OOOoor, it could be about artists in general (Joy Division are fellow artists). He might also be trying to tell someone to not question their art and that no one is perfect. Telling them that they were born for this and not to be afraid or held back from it. Oh god, I doubt it's about a prostitute you guys. It sounds like he is in a complex relationship with someone and is being pressured to do something quickly or prove something quickly. He seems at a loss or stumped as to what that should be. "Give me just a second. I'll find something to say." "Had I just a minute I'd have made the great escape. What could he do?" He doesn't know what to do so he wants to escape. He is stalling so he can escape. She says "haven't we met" (slyly) She knows him and is asking him if he remembers her without saying it directly. He remembers her but does not want to relive whatever scene that was once lived by the both of them. He is unsure of what to do. |

| This is for sure one of their best songs. I love the poetry with the music. It is very dark and beautiful. I think it could be about suicide or using suicide as a metaphor. It's hard to tell since the singer is very quite about his personal life. | |
