Tool – Stinkfist Lyrics 10 years ago
Most tool songs are about becoming a stronger person. The music is heavy to reflect the struggle, but the songs are about triumph over yourself, the part of you who wants to open up, live and reach out, vs the lazy closed half of your mind. The lyrics in 4 degrees are about the same thing, but as a joke Maynard says it was about anal sex. Since people were dumb enough to take it literally, they must have named this song stinkfist (anal fisting) as another joke because this song is about the same thing as 4 degrees. It is about reaching into a new part of yourself and opening up to life. It might seem negative on first listen, but it is about something sweet and powerful. Think of Die Er Von Satan, it sounds like something bad but is about something sweet (German Chocolate Cake). The struggle is heard in the music, but if you take time away from rocking out and actually listen, you will hear the sweetness and appreciation for life he is writing about.

Tool – 4 Degrees Lyrics 11 years ago
The song is about letting go of your fears and inhibitions to live a better life, and there is a side of you which challenges you to unlock your full potential. I do not know where people get the idea this is about sex, the human body stays a constant temperature everywhere, no one part is warmer than the other. This song is maybe a prequel to 46 & 2.

These are not the rage against the machine lyrics. These are written by someone else.

Rob Zombie – Sick Bubblegum Lyrics 12 years ago
I think the song is about pussy to be honest. I think the sick bubblegum is the pussy. The line where he says "Fireproof stick and I ain't so quick, I just made you think I am..." might mean that he has gotten laid a lot and is used to the 'fire' or vagina, and he doesn't cum fast? I think this album is loaded with sexual reference where as HBD was more horror based.

Tool – Bottom (feat. Henry Rollins) Lyrics 12 years ago
To elaborate on some more interesting lyrics: Near the end Maynard talks about being how his fear is naked, because he sees himself and recognizes all of his consciousness, therefore his fear is naked. He eliminates it. When he says at the end that it leaves him 'dead inside', he means that all the fearful energy is gone and dead, and that all the hatred, weakness, ugliness and guilt have kept him alive because he can recognize it and eliminate it by seeing it from 'the bottom' or the core of his consciousness and being.

Tool – Flood Lyrics 12 years ago
If I can summarize this shortly, it is simply about recognizing yourself in a new perception. Biblical references or not, the song speaks of becoming aware or 'waking up' to the reality around you. It is about seeing reality for what it is beyond your expectations and beliefs. This happens through life experience. When you experience something you believe it, and you can hear someone preach something all day, but you may not actually change your mind about something until you have a new experience.

The person in this song is seeing reality in a way he never saw before because he put barriers on his perception, maybe believing his actions were caused by fate or some outside force rather than himself, but he wakes up to the reality of free will, and all his decisions were made by him, not the outside force, and that his freedom and deliverance was the free will he has had all his life. The past beliefs are just images, siguls, ideas. They are not reality what he sees now. The flood represents his new understanding of things, and how this new perception will 'flood' his consciousness and his life experience will exist through new understanding. The flood of this new perception will cleanse the mind, since this understanding of reality can no longer be repressed by fallacies or lies or false perceptions; it is inevitable. The old ideas will be purged, and the new perception will cleanse his consciousness and purge the false perceptions. In short, the song is about awakening to reality and the experience of it.

Tool – Bottom (feat. Henry Rollins) Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is about facing the fear within yourself and removing it. The bottom is where you face your own demons. These are the emotions mentioned in the song about hatred, weakness, ugliness, guilt. When confronting these things you find a dark side of yourself, the fearful self. When you remove fear from yourself, you are no longer afraid of yourself, and therefore you step into your full individuality, you finally become who you are.

The song sounds dark because of the harsh metal sound, but this only portrays the struggle and frustration, the lyrics also sound harsh but their message is about strengthening your mind and freeing yourself from fear of yourself.

In summary, the whole reason the world is fucked up is because people are afraid of themselves. They may believe they are afraid of other things, but they are actually afraid of themselves because they don't know how to deal with the things they fear, thus they fear themselves, not other things. When one recognizes their fearful self and eliminate it they become whole and alive, and they become good and strong. The lyrics "naked now, fearless now, nothing now" represent this new becoming. All the bad emotions stemming from the fear are removed, and now there is nothing in the way, and the self which was repressed is bearing itself as a new or 'naked' being. When Maynard says "shit adds up at the bottom" he means that when one goes to the center of themselves, the part of themselves that is not afraid and pure and happy, you see all the outer layers you have added on to your consciousness, bot the good and the bad, therefore it 'adds up'. You see all of it, and destroy the ones associated with fear and you become new and naked and yourself. Pretty awesome stuff.

Tool – Crawl Away Lyrics 12 years ago
You guys got this all wrong. The lyrics have been misinterpreted. The chorus is "I can see your back pin turning, if I could I'd, stick a knife in."

I don't think he is talking to anyone but himself in this song. Try to interpret the songs on this album from yourself talking to yourself. In this song, there is the addict side and the sober side arguing with each other. The sober side is saying he can see the back pins turning, saying the addict is like a wind up toy, and that it doesn't care what the addict side wants or needs because it doesn't mean that much to the sober half. The whole song is about killing your addictive behavior/personality/experince.

Tool – Undertow Lyrics 12 years ago
To elaborate on your statement, the undertow might be the current in which your life flows, and the ecstasy might be the realization of your ability as a human being to create a better world for yourself, the realization you are a free being within a universe, and that you are only at the mercy of yourself and your own choices. Perhaps the song is about knowing and waking up to how silly the world is, and accepting it, and realizing you can make a better world because you now have total realization of your own will and ability.

Tool – Schism Lyrics 12 years ago
It could be about split viewpoints of a religion, it could be about a court hearing, yet it is certainly about watching a good relationship between people go bad and seeing it break apart.

I used to like this album and contemplate the meaning of Clive Barker's work. The video has beings which look like centobites. Its just about people disconnecting from one another.

Nine Inch Nails – Piggy Lyrics 13 years ago
This song may refer to when Richard Patrick left the band. His nickname was "piggy". He left the band to go start FILTER (thank god). I believe him and Trent had different ideas about who owned NIN and the content it produced, and probably creative differences on top of it. While I think Trent Reznor is an excellent song writer, Patrick's music re-defined industrial rock and is also backed up with more power. In any case, The Downward Spiral is a very emotional album, and I think here Trent was igniting some catharsis over the situation.

Nine Inch Nails – Closer Lyrics 13 years ago
The song could be about what its like to be a rock star and have constant groupies wanting to fuck you. The fans only see rock stars in a way to idolize them, in other words no one accepts you as a rock star for who you are except for their perceptions and what you give them. In the song, the rock star sees the groupies as animals, and they see him in the same kind of shallow sense of objectivity. Being closer to God is referring to popularity and warship, or unconditional praise based on false identity.
