I think this song has religious meaning to it. The Fray's band members are christians. "When darkness comes upon you and colors you with fear and shame Be still and know that I am with you And I will say your name." - Darkness is things like fear and shame in the bible. God tells us not to worry though because he is always with us. He knows our name, he knows every cell of our bodies. Be still meaning be calm or be okay because I am with you. "If terror falls upon your bed And sleep no longer comes Remember all the words I said Be still, be still, and know." - Terror is just more darkness. Hard times. Remember the words that God has said. He will always be with you. | I don't think it's literally about a fight like boxing I think it's about in a relationship the boy keeps making a mistake that hurts the girl and it's like it's in his head. He knows it hurts her but he can't/won't/doesn't stop doing it. Maybe he doesn't realize it is hurting her because he puts himself first. The girl keeps loving him and taking him back and fighting for their relationship but he keeps messing up. He can't help that he keeps doing this thing that hurts her because it is who he is. Maybe the fight is symbolic for something that he's fighting with himself that gets in the way of their relationship. Maybe he has a mental illness, like OCD for example. When you have a problem like that, you come first. You have to take care of yourself first. It's just how your head works. Or maybe he has an anxiety problem. I know how it feels and you don't think about if your hurting other people while it's happening because you're so soaked up in yourself (during a panic attack for example). He tries to stop letting the illness take control over him because he knows it hurts her and he loves her but he's not strong enough. She loves him and believes in him but she feels like it's never going to end sometimes and the illness will win over their relationship. That's what I get from it. | |

I think that he and his love are in two different places (physically) and they miss each other. They are trying to stay strong and wait for each other because they really do love each other but the distance makes it so hard and they don't want their "relationship" to slip. He is reminded of her constantly (which is what many people experience when they are in love correct?) and he can't stop thinking about her/missing her. I don't know of these lyrics need correcting because I am too lazy to listen to the song and read them at the same time so hopefully these are right. Phone calls and Letters let you know that there is a distance and they aren't physically together. I'm guessing that the "I'm in a dream" part is he wants it to be a dream because obviously dreams aren't real. "Get me out of this" he doesn't want to be in the dream that he hopes he is in, who would? But at least it means that when he wakes up she'll/he'll be there or things will at least be better and he won't be away from her/him anymore.) "Take what I took and give it back to you" I love that line.. I could be wrong but what I get from it is that he feels bad for the long distance relationship and even though they were together they weren't literally with eachother because they were seperated for whatever reason. So I think he's saying he's sorry for the time that he took from her by being (take what I took) away from her and he'll make it up to her (give it back to you). I don't know why I just think that is so sweet. |
