I agree with you about Veronica Guerin, it definitely reminded me of her life and courage. And I think Croke Park would've been the perfect setting to play that song also. I'm not sure you can still see the towers from Drumcondra any more though? |

@NOBODY11 - I think you're a perfect example of how people can overinterpret a song, no offence.
This song is most certainly about drug usage, the 7 towers refer to the housing projects in Dublin where prominent activies include drug abuse and prostitution. She sees seven towers, but she only sees one way out - I'm sure for alot of people in that situation, indeed drugs are the only method of escaping that life. Although the song is beautiful, and you may find it difficult to swallow in that it is about such a morbid topic, but you shouldn't disregard the blatant meaning of the song BECAUSE the topic is a difficult one. "Sweet the sin, bitter the taste" - perhaps a reference to the need to take drugs, the relief etc. that it brings, (sweet the sin) but also the pain and suffering, the dependency etc. that goes with it.
So yeah, the song IS about drugs, it's not a glorification of using but a grim portrayal of the life of someone who does. Unless you can offer an alternative interpretation as opposed to calling everyone who does morons? |

I think those paradoxes (cry without weeping, talk without speaking incl. the title) is with reference to those people who grew up in areas like Ballymun in Dublin who get 'lost in the cracks' of society as such, the ones society forgets about in a sense, the ones with no voice, I suppose. Prhaps it also refers to being trapped in the vicious circle of addiction etc., knowing your entire life will probably be spent in these dismal projects. She sees seven towers, but she sees one way out i.e. escapism in the form of heroin usage. |

You Americans are so entertaining. Always trying to save the world. Always thinking that the way to do that is by changing everything to YOUR ideals. This song is about Bush, Vedder is American and so I understand why he is so politically 'moral' about issues in his own nation. But I wish he, and all of you would stop being so concerned with what's happening with YOUR country and understand there's ALOT worse happening elsewhere. |

| Sinch – Tabula Rasa Lyrics

Tabula Rasa is Latin for blank slate, and it was used by empiricist philosophers to counteract such rationalistic theories as the Cartesian notion of innate ideas. Basically, Descartes, when coining the phrase 'I think therefore I am', construed that there exists some 'thinking thing' which is innate or inborn, a priori in the sense that there are (or there 'is' in this case) ideas that exist prior to experience with the external world. Descartes used the example of the idea of God as one which exists prior to experience, but other philosophers, such as Plato and Socrates, argued that knowledge of mathematical or geometrical forms were also innate.
Empiricist philosophers such as John Locke stated that this doctrine of innate knowledge was, in fact, erroneous. Basically, Locke argued that no ideas or knowledge can exist in a human mind without first that human having had some sense-experience with the outside world. It is through our senses that ideas and knowledge is formulated - when we eat something sour, we know only that it is sour after tasting it. It is not something we know of PRIOR to tasting it, thus prior to the sense-experience of taste. This is otherwise known as 'a posterior' knowledge. Hence, all human beings when born are tabula rasa's, or blank slates, upon which ideas are formulated by sense-impressions (from experience).
Having said that, I'm not sure WHAT this song means in reference to it's title.. And I'm afraid that although the lyrics are sublime, I'm sceptical of whether Sinch knew what Tabula Rasa meant either :/ |
