| The Killers – Sweet Talk Lyrics | 15 years ago |

God this song is so beautiful. It wasn't until I listened to it a few times did I realize just how beautiful it is and how amazing the lyrics are. Brandon is such a beautiful writer. It really seems to be about his own struggles, burdens and temptations that have been weighing on his mind. He's asking his significant other or perhaps God, to be there and ground him harder and to keep him on the straight and narrow. "Hold my hand harder,Ease my mind." The lifestyle of rock and roll is quite hedonistic but it seems he is trying hard to resist all its temptations but he really needs this person or being's help, stability and guidance. Flying is finally being free from all these inner conflicts in his conflicted mind. "Fix my feet when they're stumbling. And well you know it hurts sometimes. You know it's gonna bleed sometimes." Here, he seems to be talking to his significant other and telling her that he really needs her to be there for him, to be strong for him and that it's not going to be easy. There's going to be a lot of hard times but he really needs her. He's done some things he's not proud of, but he needs this person/being's help in resisting temptation, the fire and perhaps everything that comes with this rock and roll lifestyle. My absolute favorite part is: I'm gonna climb that symphony home and make it mine. Let his resonance light my way. See, all these pessimistic sufferers tend to drag me down. So, I could use it to shelter what good I've found. This sounds somewhat religious but 'his' isn't a capitalized 'His', but it still seems to refer to the Lord as leading the way to stability and goodness. Or, actually, he could in another way be referring to himself in this passage, as resonance refers to his own musical talent and he's simply stating he's going to conquer the music world, aka "symphony home." What I love about this passage is his determination again, which is evident in so many of his lyrics, to not let others bring him down. He has so much faith in himself and he's going to simply shelter out all those negative influences in his life which drag him down. Beautiful, inspiring, and so touching. |

| The Killers – Sam's Town Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This is truly one of my favorite Killers songs, if it's possible to choose one. The lyrics are so powerfully honest and really appears to be about Brandon's past and present. I can identify with these lyrics in so many ways. He comes from a small town, where it's rare to find someone with dreams and ambitions similar to his own. He's very much the type to push the envelope and challenge current trends and expectations. He doesn't let people get him down and he knows he has what it takes to succeed. He's got that something special and he realizes it. "I've got this energy beneath my feet like something underground's gonna come up and carry me." This energy and passion was too great to be contained. Now.."Why do you waste my time?" Is the answer to the question on your mind I'm not actually sure what this refers to. The question on whose mind? He's tired of all those judging him and he longs to be back at home. He reflects upon his past and it's beautiful how well be captures the essence of his past and his sort of "all American" life growing up, almost blue collar yet purely American. He contrasts well his very down to earth childhood while reconciling a much more glamorous lifestyle. There's a few lyrics I can't really interpret, but generally I feel this song is about his past, growing up in America, and the importance of returning back to your home, even for just a little while. Home is essentially where the heart is and no matter how crazy your life gets, it's important to go home because it recharges your soul and keeps you grounded. Interestingly, "I see London, I see Sam's Town" seems to equate London and Sam's Town as equal homes. London is the home of The Killers biggest fan base, so perhaps this is where they feel most at home when playing for fans, while Sam's Town is where he as an individual feels at home. |

| The Killers – Neon Tiger Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This song really seems to be about himself. Brandon has a beautiful way of writing metaphorically in such a way that is so simple yet so poignant. His lyrics are profound and deep but don't seem to be overly interpretative. This particular song's meaning seems to stand out from the words.v "So I gone straight from the poster town of scorn and ritz "To bring you the wilder side of gold and glitz" Here, he refers to himself, coming from Las Vegas full of scorn and ritz "Run neon tiger there's a lot on your mind They promised just to pet you, but don't you let them get you Away, away, away Under the heat of the southwest sun" This chorus is where it seems pretty evident he is referring to himself. He's the neon tiger, neon as a reference to Las Vegas, perhaps the tiger being the young, independent and ambitious man he is. "They promised just to pet you, but don't let them get you" seems to refer to all the publicity and demands of being in fame, as all the pressures can get to even the strongest and purest animal. He's trying to keep his distance and sanity. His escape and place of retreat is at home, in the desert. Brandon took to the spotlight like a diamond ring. He's a natural perfomer and he certainly shines on stage. I'm not sure what the next two lines mean though. In the second and similar chorus, he victimizes himself almost as the target of either fame or pressure. He's trying hard to maintain his essence, his pureness and himself and to not conform to the demands of either this lifestyle or the expectations of certain people. People will label him and objectify him, but he can't submit to it. "Run neon tiger there's a price on your head They'll hunt you down and gut you, I'll never let them touch you Away, away, away I'm begging you neon tiger roar" Again, it really seems like he's referring to himself and all the attention he may be getting from fame or someone potentially able to corrupt him. Roaring is a powerful symbol of fighting back and he's telling himself to be strong on the outside. |
