| Radiohead – Creep Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
The song describes exactly what many socially inept males go through when they attempt to hit the dating scene or look for love. They have feelings of insecurity, unworthiness, entitlement, low self-esteem, anxiety/fear, etc. Not being able to make good eye contact, check. Putting beautiful women on a pedestal, check. Coming off awkward when trying to reveal their intentions (usually sexual), check. Being negative and not seeing the positive attributes that do make themselves special individuals, double check. Many of these guys don't have an internal locus of control and compare themselves to others. They attribute their success in life to outside forces (fate), rather than taking responsibility for their own successes and failures. They fantasize about how good other people have it and that if they only had money, or good looks or a better personality, they would be able to get what they want in life (namely sex with women or a romantic relationship). You'd find these guys on social media looking at the highlight reels of other peoples lives, doing fun things, being happy and thinking that these people (usually old high school class mates and friends of friends of friends) have it so much better than them. When Thom says "I don't care if it hurts", I picture this is where the forever alone gets to the point where he is fed up with being lonely and decides to do something about his predicament. Unfortunately, being a social and/or dating novice makes this guy a complete bundle of nerves, uncomfortably awkward, lusting over the possibilities, only looking for specific outcomes and coming off creepy, depressing, and unfun. However, on the positive side, it takes this kind of awkwardness and getting out of the comfort zone to learn from these experiences BUT many guys lose hope after being rejected due to coming off like a creep, hence the chorus "But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo, What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here" This also brings to mind the idea that these guys start on a self-help journey of sorts. They go to the gym ("I want a perfect body") and try to read philosophy on dating, success, spirituality ("I want a perfect soul"). These things are all well and good, but it still comes from a place of not being good enough, that they are unworthy until they obtain X amount of money, Y amount of knowledge/skill/experiences, and can lift Z amount of weight on a barbell. What ultimately makes a creep a creep is fear and their intentions. If a guy is afraid to put himself out there, doesn't like himself so he hides away (becomes shady and pervy) and only has his mind set on the outcome of what he desires (in many ways objectifies women and love), then yes, it creates a persona of self-defeat and repulses everyone away. |

| Dio – Holy Diver Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
Combine the cover with the lyrics and here is my interpretation: "Holy Diver You've been down too long in the midnight sea Oh what's becoming of me" This refers to the priest, or a faithful believer, focusing too much on the murky waters of sin and evil. Even though the priest or believers religion in theory is a good one, there seems to be a fascination with the darker side of both the religion and life itself. Think of the holy diver as a good person who is exploring the dark murky depths. "Ride the tiger You can see his stripes but you know he's clean Oh don't you see what I mean" People are fascinated by the strength and dominance of a predator like the Tiger. You can see what kind of animal he is, but never-the-less, the holy diver is fascinated. The Tiger itself could refer to the Devil, personal demons, the personification of evil and/or rebellion. After all, Tigers have killed numerous men, yet people still idolize and respect the Tiger. Riding the Tiger could refer to being a hypocritical. The holy diver sees the Tiger's stripes (sees that it is evil), but rides anyway (acts clean but really isn't). "Gotta get away Holy Diver" Basically a warning, to stay away from the Tiger. He may look clean (cool, interesting), but is really dangerous. "Shiny diamonds Like the eyes of a cat in the black and blue Something is coming for you" The holy diver thinks he is in control but really isn't (refer to the cover of the album). He is being stalked by the Tiger (manipulated by evil). "Race for the morning You can hide in the sun 'till you see the light Oh we will pray it's all right" This is where things get really interesting. "Race for the morning" alludes that the holy diver (righteous, yet hypocritical believer) treats being good as some sort of race to be won. That the holy diver can hide behind his religion, even though he is a hypocritical sinner and so long as he believes and prays that it will be all right, he will be saved. "Between the velvet lies There's a truth that's hard as steel The vision never dies Life's a never ending wheel" This could either mean that the holy diver himself is being lied to, that he refuses to acknowledge that he is doing wrong and the truth is he is just as bad as the non-believer OR it could mean that the holy diver is lying and hiding the fact that he knows he is sinning and doesn't care. Regardless of this, the truth is there (the vision never dies) and life continues on despite the holy diver being genuine (fate waits for no man) "Holy Diver You're the star of the masquerade No need to look so afraid" This is where things get dark. Dio is saying that everyone knows the holy diver is hiding his sin, and as in a masquerade, is pretending to be something he is not. Dio is telling the faithful Christian to not be afraid of sin, to embrace it rather than hide. "Jump on the tiger You can feel his heart but you know he's mean Some light can never be seen" Now Dio is saying rather than ride the Tiger, "jump on the Tiger" or in other words, don't be afraid of your demons, the Devil, evil, human nature, sin, etc. Be enthusiastic about it, rather than just fascinated. Don't be half way in, go all the way in. Dio is saying, you can "feel his heart", or feel the intentions or merit of said Evil, even though you know it is wrong. "Some light can never be seen" or some standards can never be met; Dio is claiming with the holy divers struggle with sin, he will never reach true holiness. |

| DevilDriver – Nothing's Wrong? Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
The song deals with Aleister Crowley and his Thelma Law "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law." In other words, you are your own God, and as long as you don't hurt anyone else, you can do whatever you desire. However, this it very misleading, because although on the outside it seems this philosophy is peaceful, it actually promotes self destructive behavior and justification for immorality with no consequences for immoral acts. Crowley himself was an avid drug user and sexual pervert. He was also completely Anti-Christian, which I feel many a music artist uses to justify their Anti-Christian messages of rebellion and self-gratification (Black Sabbath, David Bowie, The Beatles and many others). Basically, Devildriver is saying, there is nothing wrong with doing what you want or saying what you want. Put a vent to your soul, for better or worse, however this philosophy only leads to strife and degeneration. There is a difference between recognizing ones faults and growing through a life of bettering oneself, and embracing ones immorality and glorifying it by calling it liberty. What I get from the lyric "Your ways are killing you", is that to Devildriver, putting yourself second, not giving into your impulses or living solely for yourself, is not living at all. When Dez says "There is nothing wrong, with how I live my life TODAY", he means in today's society, it is okay to live anyway you please within the bounds of the law. However, there is a difference between what is JUST and what is TRUE. There is a difference between what is RIGHT and what is GOOD. |

| Lady GaGa – Bad Romance Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| It seems like the general theme of this song is that Gaga wants "revenge sex". "Your a criminal as long as your mine" gives off the impression that the guy she is having this "bad romance" with is helping her get back at her boyfriend through raunchy sex. The guy she wants seems to be the kind that is into kink, someone she can burn up. | |

| David Bowie – After All Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
"I sing with impertinence, shading impermanent chords, with my words" Bowie is singing in a non-serious nursery rhyme sing-song way and is only shadowing the catchy tune with his hidden message and secret agenda. In other words, he throws off the listener by singing in a jovial and lighthearted manner, the charm of the song is only fleeting, but the message is much more serious and has a lasting affect. |

| David Bowie – After All Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
This song is blatantly satanic. Lets analyze line by line... "Please trip them gently, they don't like to fall" Many devout Christians are afraid of evil and of sin, so Bowie is suggesting to trick them subtlety. 'Fall' meaning 'fall from grace'. Trip could also allude how drugs can be used to alter a persons perception, but in this case Bowie says to go gently, as in using clever messages in music. "There's no room for anger, we're all very small" Bowie suggests that otherwise, the Christians will get angry. A person is very small and won't make much of an impact being forthcoming "We're painting our faces and dressing in thoughts from the skies, From paradise" Bowie is saying we believe in Heaven, in the skies but it is all fake, like wearing a costume and painting ones face "But they think that we're holding a secretive ball. Won't someone invite them They're just taller children, that's all, after all" Christians think of Satanism as occult, mysterious and magical. In this lyric, children are equated to children of God who hold themselves higher due to their faith. "Man is an obstacle, sad as the clown...So hold on to nothing, and he won't let you down" Bowie says only care for oneself, caring about others is just a roadblock. If you don't care about others, they won't let you down. "Some people are marching together and some on their own...Quite alone" Some Christians stand together in a congregation while other Christians don't worship in Church. This message is ominous because 'quite alone' seems to signify that latter Christians are more vulnerable to suggestion. "Others are running, the smaller ones crawl But some sit in silence, they're just older children That's all, after all" Some Christians run away from evil and see it at every corner, other ones struggle with sin (crawl). Yet others have learned from experience on how to avoid sin. "I sing with impertinence, shading impermanent chords, with my words" "I've borrowed your time and I'm sorry I called But the thought just occurred that we're nobody's children At all, after all" Not able to trick the faithful through subtle messages, the satanist will try to convince the Christian that God (and therefore Satan) doesn't exist (nobody's children). "Live till your rebirth and do what you will" A spin on the infamous credo of Aleister Crowley, 'Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law'. Bowie is basically saying live the way you want to regardless of the moral or spiritual consequences, selfishly, hedonistically until the day you die and get reborn into the afterlife. This acknowledges the existence of an afterlife, so it isn't an atheist ideal, but alludes to hell. "Forget all I've said, please bear me no ill After all, after all" This final lyric holds a lot of meaning. Many satanists and atheists proclaim that as long as they aren't hurting anyone, it shouldn't matter what they do. However, with this philosophy, one is still apt to hurt oneself and by spreading this philosophy, it is in essence telling others it is okay to hurt themselves therefore eliminating the need to get ones hands dirty. Think of the Manson Family and how Charlies Manson was able to corrupt his followers through drugs, music and a warped philosophy (influenced by popular music, namely 'The Beatles') but not having to pull the trigger himself. It is this very same kind of seduction and corruption that Satan uses, never harming anyone outright, but tricking people into making bad moral decisions that lead to their downfall, leading back to the first lyric "please trip them gently, they don't like to fall". The lyric "by Jingo" is a transparent euphemism for "by Jesus", which is essentially a corruption of Christ's name and perhaps symbolizes Satan. On "Quicksand", featured on his album Hunky Dory, Bowie makes the reference "I'm closer to the Golden Dawn, immersed in Crowley's uniform of imagery..." |

| Tool – Sober Lyrics | 14 years ago |

My interpretation is that this song is a message from Satan. -There's a shadow just behind me, shrouding every step I take,- Lucifer (the state of the fallen Satan) was prideful, wanted to be just like God, but he was cast out and basically lives in God's shadow. He thought that what it means to be God, is to be exalted above all others, however as seen by Jesus' example, it really means to serve. -making every promise empty, pointing every finger at me.- Almost all evil and sin is attributed to Satan. He is the father of lies; all of his promises are empty and people point the finger at him. -Waiting like a stalking butler who upon the finger rests.- Satan claims that God is a stalking butler. What is a butler? A butler is a "senior worker" who is the "highest and most loyal servant of a household". This sounds very much like God. Christians equate Jesus to God incarnate. Jesus proclaimed that he would come as a servant or slave to his people instead of a king. Since Jesus is supposed to be the perfect example to man (to love and serve one another) but is also divine (he is the "most high") essentially a butler. He is a "stalking" butler, because Satan sees him as an overseer, or one who is always there, watching. Satan also says the blame rests on God, not him. -Murder now the path of "must we", Just because the son has come- Firstly, what is "murder"? Murder is an "unlawful killing, with malice aforethought". So basically God "unlawfully" does away with the path of "must we", just because the son has come (Jesus birth, sacrifice and resurrection). The path of "must we" is the requirements, the laws that "we must" follow to ensure a path to salvation. Jesus is now the way to heaven instead of the path of "must we". So in short, Satan claims that God contradicts the Old Testament with the New Testament. "Just because the son has come" is one of the key lyrics that leads me to believe this song to be a religious statement (besides the obvious Jesus and Mother Mary references). -Jesus, won't you fucking whistle something but the past and done?- A person asking to be saved would not use vulgarity and ultimatums when asking for Christ forgiveness. Instead this is Satan asking Jesus "why don't you reveal yourself to your people? Prove that you are real and are who you say you are instead of relying on what was done in the past." -Why can't we not be sober? I just want to start things over- This is a prime example of how Satan deceives. There is a double negative, which instead means "why can't we be drunk?" In this case, I think it means why can't we be ignorant and blind, just like in the beginning in the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve had yet to eat from the Tree of Knowledge. Satan knows his impending doom and wants things to be as they were. -Why can't we drink forever? I just want to start things over- Reinforces the lines above. Satan is stating that he "just" wants to start things over, where there is only a small population, oblivious to the evils of the world. However, I'm assuming it would be to start the whole chain of events over again because after all... -I am a worthless liar- Self explanatory, but here it is Satan actually stating a truth, repenting and being honest about his nature. -I am an imbecile- Perhaps Satan conceding that he acted stupidly. This could be just a way to saying "I know I did wrong, I acted badly" even though, being the liar that he is, really doesn't concede to anything. -I will only complicate you- This is where some people point out that this is actually an "anti-Christian" song, and they may be right (religion complicates, so do drugs and drug users). However I think it is Satan saying that he complicates things by trying to pull people away from God. -Trust me and fall as well- This is the lyric that partially reinforces my interpretation. If this was a religious person warning someone away from Christianity, how did that person fall? It could make sense if is a junkie basically saying "if I trick you into taking drugs, you'll get hooked as well". Satan-Sataniel fell from Heaven and is saying "trust in me and you will fall as I have". -I will find a center in you. I will chew it up and leave, I will work to elevate you just enough to bring you down- This could be trying to talk from the "drug's" perspective, however if you go back to the lines above, how could the drug itself "fall", as in "trust me and fall AS WELL" or "fall AS I HAVE". Instead it can be about religion finding a center in you, but again, how has Christianity or any Christian "fell"? Satan finds your vices, conflicts your sense of right and wrong, promises you all your wishes and dreams, tempts you away from salvation and brings you down. -Mother Mary won't you whisper something but what's past and done.- Once again, Satan is asking "People pray for your guidance Mary, why don't you whisper back, prove that you are there." -Why can't we sleep forever?- Instead of going to Heaven, why can't humanity sleep forever after death? Of course this can also be straight forward and mean, why can't we escape reality (drug use interpretation). -Trust me- The ultimate thing that Satan wants is people to trust in him. -I want what I want- If this was about drug using, then who knows what the drug user wants, which is the major question in that interpretation. Its left up the air, "I want what I want", the addict may want to quit but the saying goes "if person really WANTS to quit they would". Satan wants what he wants, not what God wants, not what people want. |

| Aaliyah – Rock The Boat Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This is a hot song by a sexy and smooth artist. To all those people who thinks the subject matter in this song makes Aaliyah "slutty", how do you know this wasn't a song about the song writers boyfriend or husband? Obviously one could listen to this song while making love or having a one-night stand. I've heard much more smutty content in other songs, including rock music, some of which was popular at the time as well. I think the artistic way of expressing sexuality song is refreshing and not perverted what-so-ever. It is empowering and very erotic to see a female be open about her sexuality, especially when it isn't explicit to the point of censorship. | |
