To me, this song is like an anti-war song where he is no longer sure if what he was told to do by the military was the right thing to do. The snare drum near the end also reminds me a lot of the military. The first verse sounds kind of like a pep talk to himself and in a way sounds like the military commercials that you see. First 5 lines sounds like kind of like saying there are many people who feel like they should do something but only a few actually are brave enough to do it “sing like lions” The next 2 lines “we got each other’s back until were back where we belong” sounds like he is with his fellow platoon members and they will protect each other until they are back home. Skipping down a little bit “And through the battles we did wrong A man would tell me wisdom through the static we were gone And maybe when were gone they'll look into the stars Every starts got its ending Even when we've learn to rise above it all” It sounds like they were told to do something that they thought was wrong but the man over the radio gave them orders to and said if you die you will be remembered as a hero. The next verse that repeats a few times that starts with “These lies are leading me astray” This sound sounds like the regret he has of what he has done and he feels like he was lied to. The war does go on endlessly. And he will “sing one last song until he is gone” off to the next war. The next verse could be taken as solders and combat references Etc… My 2 cents... |
