In fields where nothing grew but weeds, I found a flower at my feet, perhaps the first two lines talk about the universe (the field) and the other uninhabitable planets (weeds) we were given (i found) the earth (a flower) Bending there in my direction, -> it was here for us I wrapped a hand around its stem, I pulled until the roots gave in, --> we started taking from it the rest seems to be pretty straight forward but i have to say i didnt really realize it as a song about the planet until you pointed it out good work! |

I dont think that this song should be restricted to just being about another person. To me this song is about just looking back at your past (monuments to where i have been) and stepping into your future (melodies to where i am going). A big part of my summers was being a camper in this stage of camps, and on the last day of the last stage, all i could think of was this song and how life is always changing and you have to embrace it. obviously brandon isnt talking about summer camp but just moving forward and only having pictures of things and moments from your past - "all i have today is your photograph" But that not being enough - "still life can only go so far" |

"Don't move, stay right where you are talking can only give you away" Again along the lines of a mental patient. I think it is as if someone is warning a mental patient to not say what comes to mind really and just try to stay silent so people dont think he's crazy. |
