I agree! This song is amazing. The only thing I'd say about it's meaning is that she sings it with a "little girl" voice which makes be believe that, although she loves her daddy, she doesn't always get the attention she desires. At the end of it the instruments are played haphazardly, the tambourine is thrown to the floor, and a door opens (or closes). I think she rejects her daddy. |

I tend to think of it as something biblical too. But I may be biased because of one of the photos in the albums artwork which looks like it's been taken from a children's book about the nativity. In the photo it says "Mary and Joseph went on and on. The sun went down. It was getting cold. They saw fire." |

Scream blue murder is the same as screaming bloody murder. A "beard" is slang for someone who is used as a cover for a gay person. Although, it might just mean facial hair in the song, I've always liked to think she means it as a "beard" I think it's supposed to be "Je vous aime la bête" which is "I like the beast" or something like that. It seems to be a pretty straight forward song about a man who is attached to a blow up doll named Claudine. He's quite possibly gay and likes to gamble. He's unable to make connections with "real" people so he's obsessed with his "inflatable queen". That's my take on it anyway. |

I've always thought that "something metal tearing my stomach out" was about surgery or a knife in the stomach (suicide). I'm sure that's not what Polly had in mind. And the learning of another language and misunderstanding what someone said. Seems like a failed relationship, they are unable to communicate with each other. |
