Waste and Batter up to me tell the same story but from two separate narrators. "Waste" in the POV of a friend who has a friend struggling through addiction and he is trying his best to talk him through it. Unfortunately the last song on the Album is "Batter Up", coming from the POV of the addict. By the end of the album, the addict has completely given into his addiction and all hope of breaking out of it. Although the Narrator in 'Waste' insists the addict is "not alone", the Narrator knows "its never going to stop" and might as well be "batters up" for the next hit. |

I don't think anyone doubts this song is about his stepfather. But whe he "crawls in shotgun" he's talking about getting in a passenger seat, there is no play on words. He grabs hold of on long sharp tooth and holds on. This is a play on words. The lion is his stepfather, and the lions teeth are his arms. Like anyone who ever has been in a fight with someone who over powers them you have 3 options 1 run 2 get beat up 3 hold on him for dear life |

I don't think the narrator was going to Georgia to kill a girl. The only person he was going to kill was himself. The narrartor is clearly depressed and was going to shoot himself but was saved by the girl who had emaculant timing. He clearly loved the girl as he saw light come from underneath her. He is going to Georgia for the hope that going to a new place will magically make him feel better or better his condition. Most of the "going to" songs and this as a theme. |
