This seems apt, and very clever.

Poets Of The Fall – Given and Denied Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is beautiful.. it reminds me of Siri's Tale in the novel Hyperion by Dan Simmons.

Just to me, the song is fairly straightforward, yet extremely intricate at the same time. According to me, the song is based on a man leaving his lover, presumably by ship (this is just an assumption), on a long voyage which will separate them for years or perhaps forever.

First, he talks about the years he's spent with her, and that he wishes he'd find the fountain of his youth so that he could immerse himself in his memories with her.. The prechorus in all instances always deals with how he's gonna leave, and just before the shadow of his departure arrives, he wants her to hear him out one last time..

The chorus is BEAUTIFUL. It's my favorite chorus - of all time. Again it refers to his probably departure by sea, and it's amazing, how the lyrics relate to various otherwise unrelated things - the shadows of his departure descend like a leaf in the wind over an ocean which reminds him of how his lover's eyes look in the starry sky - a deep blue. The world is all so silent at this hour, but yet symphonies of bliss play, emphasizing the beauty of the scene. The final line shows how he feels he's been given a lot in the form of his lover, yet he is denied off it as he must leave..

The music is simple, but it's well laid-out and is of a very soothing and dreamy sort which always makes PotF stand out for me.

If I could, I'd give the Poets an award for this song. It truly is a work of lyrical and musical art.
