Murray Gold – Song For Ten Lyrics 15 years ago
The first time I heard this whole song, at "I want you to know," I waited for the next line. But he didn't continue. Then I realized it was a foreshadowing of "Rose Tyler..." So sad.

I made a video tribute to the 10th Doctor with this song after he died. Well, regenerated. The Doctor lived, but Ten died... This song used to make me so happy, but now that he's gone, it makes me so sad...

Evanescence – Listen to the Rain Lyrics 15 years ago
I found it odd that people aren't sure what this song is about. It's just what it says, really. Some people see the world a little differently than others. I guess Amy is one of them. People find really profound insights from simple things, like rain. It's hard to explain how. We just do. And this song is an example of one of the things we see, or in this case, hear. No, we're not scizophrenic (spelling?). But when it's raining, we go outside, or at least stare out the window and look at its beauty. And questions come into our minds. The sound it makes... Almost like it's speaking. If it could speak, what would it say to me? Am I the only one who would think to listen? Is it the people we never listen to who tell us what we need to hear the most? And then we get all these ideas. It all comes from the question "What if?" Just me trying to give you all the thought process.

And by the way, it's actually "Their story before they hit ground," not "Be more than it hides." :)

Evanescence – Sweet Sacrifice Lyrics 15 years ago
*strokes chin* hmmm... a puzzler indeed, a puzzler indeed...

the first time I heard this song, I hated it. But, like many songs from The Open Door, it grew on me. I wonder what it's about, though... could it be not actually from her perspective, and in reality, inspired by a crazy supervillian from something? that's what it sounds like. all the stuff about a sacrifice leads me to think that it's an "I dare you to kill me" type thing. it makes me think.

Evanescence – Everybody's Fool Lyrics 15 years ago
huh. after watching the video (the bit where she broke the mirror was EPIC), i assumed it was about herself, likely something many celebrities go through... I had no idea it had to do with her sister. thanks for the info. it's good to know the real answers.

I'm about to associate this incredibly deep and serious song with a really silly story, so if you don't like that, stop reading now.

the first time I listened to this song was in the car on the way home from school with my mom and older brother. he and I had very different opinions on what it might mean. my brother insisted we skip it and not listen to it, deeming it one of their innapropriate (or as I call them "icky") songs. he thought it was a conversion to atheism (yeah, we're christian and we're proud, so not a word). I told him he was wrong, and that it was a really angry breakup song. he pointed out the terms used that normally apply to God, like "perfect by nature." I told him that was because the boyfriend acted like he was God. then my brother brought up the "she" and said it was Mary. I then called him stupid and said it was obviously the other girl. the argument went on, and we never came to an agreement. then later we got "anywhere but home." We watched the videos. Everybody's Fool came on. the moment of truth. this would decide whether we could listen to it or not. pizza, makeup, mirror, lies... the moment we got it, instead of being blown away by something so profound, I pointed at my brother and laughed and said, "you were wrong." he responded, "you were wronger." it's not a big deal when I'm wrong. he, however, thinks he knows everything. so now, whenever this song comes on in the car, I whisper "josh... you were wrong..." not once has he admitted it.

yeah... we're a weird family...

Evanescence – Where Will You Go (First Edition) Lyrics 15 years ago
I usually think of fictional characters when I listen to songs. This one reminded me of Akito Sohma. The second verse fits perfectly.

I should give a more profound insight than that... =.='

It's about someone who's sure that when someone gets close enough to know who they really are, they'll be abandoned. So they never let anyone come that close. They make sure that no one will want to.

There... I got at least some deep-ness...

Evanescence – October Lyrics 15 years ago
I wonder if this is supposed to be a romantic or Christian song... The lines "I fall before you" and "I fall into your abounding grace" make me think it's Christain. Having rejected God for so long and realizing He's what you've been looking for. Christian or romantic, it's beautiful. Amy Lee has the most amazing voice in the history of the world.

The title is a mystery... Instead of trying to find a really deep meaning, I'm just gonna guess she came to this realization in October. Some things are exactly as they seem. :)

Evanescence – Understanding (Can't Wash It All Away) Lyrics 15 years ago
"You hold the answers deep within your own mind.
Consciously, you've forgotten it.
That's the way the human mind works.
Whenever something is too unpleasant, to shameful for us
to entertain, we reject it.
We erase it from our memories.
But the imprint is always there."

This reminds me of a story I wrote. A character lost her memory. But she was going through a lot of pain at the time, and she forgot what had been hurting her so much. "But the imprint is always there." She didn't remember what happened. But at time's she'd still find herself crying, and she never knew why until that whole crisis she was witnessing ended. I've seen similar things in other fiction as well. It's funny that I'm commenting on the quote rather than the actual song, but of all the profound insights it has, this one stood out to me the most.

I also wonder what inspired this song. I'm imagining someone who died for their lover, the narrator of the first verse. The rest of the song is the one who lived, wishing to take their place.
