| Belle & Sebastian – We Are the Sleepyheads Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I agree these are biblical references, but I wouldn't take them too seriously. Belle and Sebastian's (Murdoch's)treatment of religion has been more sarcastic than anything else - from the very first song in their catalogue, in fact ("The State That I Am In"). | |

| I'm just guessing that this song has nothing to do with Scooby Doo (which is far too American to figure into a B&S song). So what is the Scooby Show? | |

In an ocean of great songs by Belle & Sebastian, this one remains my favourite. After several dozen listens (something I don't give to 99.9999% of music), I still get shivers from this simple masterpiece of pop songwriting. An abruptly ended cello taking the breath away and leading into sombre spoken word, and imaginative harmonies on lines as gorgeous as "Could you put a name to someone else's sigh?" ushering in a majestic orchestral finale are all highlights for me. Best with the volume turned up loud enough to wake the town (or the same in headphones). I don't know why some people (women?) here should feel uncomfortable with the song's sexuality. Sex, including fantasies, is a sign that you're NORMAL and surely lust deserves some beautiful songs too. I can't completely make out the spoken line at the end, but it sounds a bit like "Listen here" or "Listen to me". Anyone else hear that? |
