| I wish I would have seen your response first as I just finished typing out almost the exact same thing! Anyone who has ever cheated and regretted it, or been cheated on, knows that this song is about that, word for word. | |

| I agree. I just posted a long response to the song, but I think in the song, the singer is acknowledging breaking someone's trust and wishing he hadn't. | |

I think this song is about infidelity or some other kind of lost trust in a relationship. I think in the song, the singer is the one who lost the trust of the other person by whatever it is he did wrong. "So you lost your trust /And you never should have" He's basically saying: I let you down/cheated/etc and never should have. I should never have lost your trust. I'm trustworthy, I just made a mistake. "But don't break your back / If you ever see this/But don't answer THAT" He's saying: Don't respond angrily if you see this. Hear me out. "In a bullet proof vest /With the windows all closed/I'll be doing my best" He knows that she, along with her friends or whomever else knows what happened, will be shooting ‘bullets’ at him, so he's keeping a low profile and trying to avoid the wrath of what he did. By "I'll be doing my best" he's saying that he is trying his best to improve and grow from his mistake. He's also probably responding to her having said something like "I wish you all the best, but..." "I'll see you soon/In a telescope lens" He's still looking at her from afar/thinking of her even though she’s keeping him at a distance. “And when all you want is friends/ I’ll see you soon” He understands that she needs friends to lean on right now to help her heal. But I think by also saying “I’ll see you soon” here, he is saying that he feels that soon she will realize that he really was her friend. “So they came for you/ They came snapping at your heels” Everyone came for her to help her out of her pain, but as in most cases, the advice provided was probably negative towards her ex — basically, like snakes, they came “snapping at her heels” with their biting words against him. |

| To me this is about a guy who is in love with a girl who he for whatever reason can't be with. The most obvious reason to me is that she is likely in another relationship, or even married, so even though she is attracted to him too, he is not 'supposed' to make real eye contact, and especially not 'be here with you... but how can I leave?" Basically, he wants to be with her, she is thinking about making a move his way, and they connect visually. Simple, beautiful, to the point. | |

Although I do see what you all are saying now, I must be the only one who never thought this was a song about sexual confusion. Rather, I always interpreted it (prior to reading the comments here) to be about a guy who is yearning for a girl who is in a relationship which he feels is all wrong. To me, when he says that "he/she's got a pretty persuasion" he is acknowleding that they are an attractive couple, likely more attractive than he is, but that despite that reasoning, the guy just doesn't look right on her arm/sleeve, and despite his better judgement, he'd like to 'hurry and buy' her and put her on his arm instead, even though he knows he will face heat for it. |
