I almost feel like the end is what the fella would be saying to her. He wanted more than she had to offer and her response is that only time had only ever really been there to tend to her and mend her. Almost like it was there or going to be there more than she knew this guy was. Also maybe because this is a reoccuring event. That people pass in and out of her life and she consistently finds herself falling back into the hands of time, so shes use to it, though it still hurts and takes time. I really like how round her words sound. For some reason it reminds me of the movie LEGEND or maybe even Fern Gullie. |

My opinion is that the man in the song is troubled by himself and by the world around him and he's trying to find the meaning to his life, while trying to save the rest of the world. A very difficult task when your own faith is shaken raw each morning and each emotion feels like its only a passing phase. The women keeps the mans spirit up. She believes that maybe what he was doing is the answer, to not understand "the rich as they consume" because it is not part of him but to continue in his toils to try and save them. And not be too hard on his self because he has a good heart.
My biggest problem is i always believe the songs about a personal experience the writter had but Laura says thats most of the time not the case in plenty of her interviews and some come from stories... |

This song is my favorite from her, i think its great.
I believe twilight to mean being on the verge of one thing or another but that there is something there. How the sun sits in the darkness to soon be consumed or to explode the horizon with light and you can only sit and wait to see what happens next, but for these two options to be possible there has to be 2 conflicting things, the light and the dark, if that makes sense... |

This song is my favorite, though i dont know that there is a song from this band that i dont like. Its pretty straight forward but what i like best is that he never once says he loves this girl, not once. Maybes its just a friend who's a girl but its rare to hear a song thats not about ones love that shows how much the singer/ artist cares about the person in the song.
*** Side note - This band has never blown me away with there lyrics but the sound they produce is abosultely incredible, honestly nothing like it. And i find it so strange that nearly none of their songs are about pure hapiness, yet they seem so overwhealming of joy. (though we went wild is kinda all fun, but even thats debateable)I really do love this band. I'm seeing them tomorrow at the Getty. Stoked. |

I think this song is about A sister, his or not, not necessarily important to me,, is dealing with lively issues very childish, almost as a martyr. Pushing her family away and sayind pity me in hopes that someone will live her life for her but thats not how life works. And she cant see that her mothers tears are not of weakness but care and her brothers eyes as well, which is all they can offer, love and care, the rest is in her control, to control or not. Kind of as if she was letting go of them because she was letting go of herself.
p.s. I love when he says " dont test the ones you LOVE", that Love part sounds soooooo. |

I saw the " you told me i would find a hole" part a bit more direct, Like some one that is struggling and another who is direct and tells them they're struggling because their lack of faith and that person will believe whatever will make them better and as it results it didn't help them but hindered them. |

Is anyone but me wondering why this song seems so happy and melancholy at the same time? I see that thats what it is, a mixture of both, and i think its wonderful but the lyrics seem like they would only induce a deep saddening sound. Where did this happiness come from? Where is the optimisim? I feel like im missing something... |

I dont think that the sister has to be dead, it could jus be a distance factor. How in later generations people wouldn't consider moving away *the grandma and grandpa*, a generation passes and people move around more and there is divorce * the mom and dad*, and to the present, the sister has left a dilapadated house hold and she sleeps next to the picture of the brother dreaming of him. I also believe that this song deals with the passing of time and change within generations, whether its intended to do so or not.
p.s. this would have to mean that the sister is the oldest because i believe the beard growth line signifies that the brother is not old enough to move out or so. I dont know, the sister being the oldest and not dead just makes the circle of the song fit for me is all.

I feel the end of the world to this song and the music video where the carrying a wooden boat just seems to fit. That there will be a flood that is natural and no one expected that will wipe away all that we've done that doesn't seem to be to much anyways. We were far to focused on built our concepts high and well watch the reality of the earth take back what belonged to it in a beautiful swirl of water. But I've been thinking this song may sound to pretty for such a devastating topic so it could be all metaphoric, like the writes hopes and dreams to a return of unity and peace. Very beautiful song though. The high vocals linger wonderfully from the song to my day. Lovely. |

i know that arcade fire usually has a reference to things political or biblical... but im really not seeing it in this one. i definitely see an abusive relationship and such but i cant seem to take that piece and see if it fits anywhere else in a "grand scheme" kinda way. |

i think this ones about human obstruction, how in living we (humans) must make room for ourselves to grow and expand as we do and with it weve taken away a night sky and replaced it with a thousand highway lights. As the earth had the sky, we have the highways... makes me cringe a bit too. |

to be honest i think your is my favorite review but i dont think that it explains the whole song... it works with some parts but not so much others unless you can explain
