| From the very moment I first heard this song, I wondered why it had been reduced to a bonus track when it easily outshone many of the songs on Speak Now...and then, as I was listening to "All I Wanted" by Paramore, something suddenly stuck me. Now I'm not going to cry plagiarism, because that is such a strong word (and also a very subjective one when it comes to music), but I couldn't help but notice a distinctive sameness to the choruses of both songs. Before anyone objects, listen to guitar riff between 0:53 and 1:06 of Paramore's track. Now listen to the first half of the chorus of Taylor's ("Come back, come back, come back to me-e like you would, you would if this was a movie [...] Come back, come back, come back to me-e like you could, you could if you just said you're sorry.") The melodies of both are identical, note for note. It's undeniable. Now, of course, this could have been completely unintentional on Taylor's part (note that "All I Wanted" was written first)...but now that I've realized it, I can't help but wonder if the song was placed in this lesser position in order to not draw attention to itself. A beautiful song, nonetheless. | |
