I think this song is about being a man and how the 20's can pass so fast that you didn't even get a chance to update your taste in women. "I don't know where all the time has gone" "Inside a suburban maze And then she says her house is on the way" This suggests that the girl he's interested in is still living at home, which means she's probably in her late teens. "She has a man, says he's just a boy" Basically she have a on-off boyfriend, who is about her age and considered young. "I should leave It's time to go back home now I should leave You're too young for me" "I should leave Put your clothes back on now I should leave You're too young for me" The progression here makes it obvious that he's being tempted by her, while his conscience is telling him to back off. I think there's two endings to the story, the guy who didn't listen to his conscience and did get involved with a younger woman, and the guy who did listen to his conscience. Both of them have regrets but for different reasons. |
