I feel like he's being sarcastic at the part when he says: "When the gusts came around to blow me down, I held on as tightly as you held onto me." Almost as if he's saying that he gave up and let go, because the person couldn't tell he was fading away, they didn't hold on to him. Sort of like, a really quiet and polite, eff you! Obviously the beginning is recounting earlier and simple times that he misses and can't have anymore. And at the end, he fades away and turns to dust. Personally, I think it's a suicide song. Maybe that's just my sick outlook on life? |

I feel like this song isn't supposed to be pessimistic, maybe that's just me. But I feel like he's being sarcastic in this part: "When the gusts came around to blow me down, I held on as tightly as you held onto me." Almost as if, he gave up and let go, because that person couldn't tell he was fading away... they didn't hold on to him. Even though they obviously loved each other and shared memories. And at the end he leaves, and turns to dust. |
