The first part of the song is referring to his own, new found recognition as a musician. He is the one being written up in the music news (i.e being rhythmically admired) and he can basically have any girl he wants. This is new for him, since he is not so much a looker in those glasses, but since he is now somewhat famous, he can get her, but he cannot figure out why this is. Now that he is making a lot of money being a musician ( a far cry from being a ditch digger) he is almost bragging about it, and putting himself above the working classes who still fight for a dream that may never come true. His new found fame is also bringing around a lot of false people wanting a piece of his success, and he decries it by comparing himself to a juggler. He also makes parallels to music also being work, and if he wants to continue his success, he better get back to it. |
