| Led Zeppelin – Black Mountain Side Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| @[MrTambourineMan:46398] Exactly! The Black Mountains are located in Northeastern Mordor, between Dagorlad and Udún. This song is about the side of one of them. Unfortunately for us, the lyrics are beyond the hearing threshold of mere humans and, in any case, are sung in the language known as The Black Speech. | |

@[PTCGAZ:16820] Bob Plant will be the first to tell you that Robert Johnson's real name was Hopkin Yohanan which means "Famous Star Who Is Favoured By God". It should actually be "Famous Star Who WAS Favoured By God"! It is well know that Yohanan's mysteriously acquired guitar skills were a direct result of him trading his soul to the devil. He said it himself. It's also highly likely that this gift was fed into him through the strange vector of Ike Zinnerman who gleaned his scaley skills supernaturally in the Mississippi graveyards. Yohanan himself articulates the deal with Old Nick in the song Cross Road Blues. He didn't need to read the books. He and the books ARE ONE. Remember PTCGAZ, if that is indeed your name, Mythical Past, Elusive Future. |

Robert Plant has denied being a heroin user. He freely admits the use of weed and Quaaludes and, surprisingly, small amounts of hallicinogens but not smack. But he clearly did his clothes shopping at Gandalf's Place in Chelsea. |

| David Bowie – Ashes to Ashes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Not when Space Oddity was released. He went to NYC after The Man Who Sold The World. I don't think there are any real drug references in Space Oddity, the track. Bowie was quite happy to leave hints of double meaning in his songs without clarifying whether one or either are actually intended. | |

Musicfan my foot. Francis James Child, an American who compiled the most comprehensive study of English and Scottish ballads to date, states that The Maid Freed from the Gallows was "Composed before Chaucer's pilgrimage". That means that it existed before 1380. I don't think Leadbelly was quite as old as that. Also, "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" is another name for the American folk song "In The Pines". Author unknown. The song was first transcribed by Cecil Sharpe in 1917 and recorded by, at least, 4 other artists before Leadbellys 1944 version. Two of these recordings were made in 1929. |

| Led Zeppelin – D'yer Mak'er Lyrics | 15 years ago |

For dogs sake, It's a play on words you Orcs! The title means "Did you make her?" which is frequently clipped to something like "jer make 'er?" in colloquial English. The phonetic similarity to the word Jamaica was clearly not lost on Zep which is why they thought the clumsy reggae backing was appropriate. The band thought of it as a joke track. Me too. A bad one. |

| I don't think Bowie was using drugs much when he wrote Space oddity. Certainly nothing addictive. | |

| Could be about Lord of the Rings if you think about it. | |

This song is about LOTR. It illustrates the strong push-pull bond between Frodo and Gollum and recounts how Frodo turns his back "his only child" Smeagol in the wake of Gollum's split personality tantrums. Much has been said about the thinly veiled homo-erotic nature of the trilogy and this symbolism is at the forefront of the Smeagol-Frodo-Gollum triangular tension. It's a good job Sam was there is all I can say. "If you reverse the b's in bilbo, you get dildo" |

This song is about the Hobbit. In it Smaug bemoans his deathly defeat at the hands of Bard the Bowman through the line "You shook me all night long". The bird is obviously one of the thrushes of the Lonely Mountain who could sing but could also "whistle", in a language understood by the Men of Dale. Thrush overheard Bilbo telling the dwarves about the bare patch in Smaug's "diamond-encrusted" underside. By "blowing the whistle", Thrush betrayed Smaug's weakness to the Bard hence enabling his victory. The descending slide guitar which accompanies the word "loooong" emphasises Smaugs fatal fall from the skies back the muddy waters from whence he came. "if you reverse the B's in bilbo, you get dildo" |
