I would like to believe that, but do you have any evidence/quotes that support that? |

I'm not sure this song is about alcoholism or upper class. But it is a reference to Travis's "Slide show" (along with Becks "Devil's haircut" and Oasis "Wonderwall") it said's "Cause there's no design for life.
There's no devils haircut in my mind. there is not a wonderwall o climb or step around"
I only have clues: "Devil's haircut" is probably about noticing the bad things around you. Wonderwall is about a person you love is going to save you. "Design for life" could tell that there is no wonderwall because it said's "we don't talk about love". I don't know about the rest. I might be wrong. |

In my opinion I think the main principal of this song is that you can't conquer love. You may fall in love with someone because "she looks like the real thing" and "she tastes like the real thing" but she's not the woman/person that you will be happy with forever because she will wear you out. And you can also wear her out too. Because the only way to conquer love is for that person to want you more than anything else.
