10 Years – Fade Into (The Ocean) Lyrics 14 years ago
In my opinion, this song is clearly about the process of life and death.

"Broken shoulders resting on our backs. Overloaded with the weights staked higher and higher. Time runs tired."

Seems to describe the challenges and difficulties of this earthly life. So often we're bogged down with stress and sadness, the weights stacked higher and higher each day until we become exhausted with it all the suffering just never seems to end, time runs tired...

"Silence falls into the deafening sirens of my own epiphany, my own mortality"

Then suddenly, we're awakened from this trance cycle of pain and fear and we realize that, our minds go silent from the usual chatter and we realize our own mortality. We realize that we're not going to be alive here forever.

"Here I lie with my regrets, possessions petty and meaningless. You were my medicine, healing me with tenderness."

Lying on our deathbed we realize the futility of it all. We come to the conclusion that "he who dies with most toys" doesn't win anything, he still dies. Death comes to us all. So lying on the death bed, we think about the things in our life that we regret. The arguments, the anger, the fears, the shame. We also think of those we love, who are perhaps sitting beside us. They are our medicine, healing our spirits with their loving tenderness.

"Don't go"

The voices of our loved ones ringing in our heads, pleading for us not to leave.

"I don't know... what is happening"

Our grasping to understand what is happening to us as we fade away.

"Broken body crumbles into dust. Weight is lifted sending me with love. Higher and higher. Time expires"

Our bodies begin to decay the moment we die. The spirit is released from the body, the pain and suffering, the constant noise of the mind, it all goes silent and the weight of life is lifted from our shoulders and we're greeted, in our spirit, with an overwhelming sense of love and peace and we feel as though we're climbing higher and higher into the presence of this love.

"Silent come, reawakening. Passing on into eternity. Cry no more for me"

The silence is broken by our reawakening on the other side. We've passed on into eternity and we've begun to experience a new existence without pain, without fear, without regret. Our past is no longer a part of our identity. We have a true understanding of who we are. We are eternal beings. Time is no more. And as we make this transition we, in our spirit, release our loved ones. We want them to know that they need not cry for us because we are in a place of beauty and love.

"Crossing through, fade into the light"

We've completely crossed over and we're now living a new existence in this place of light and peace.

That's my 2¢

How we get there? I know what I believe. What do you think?

This is an interesting perspective. Though I disagree with the assessment, it's an interesting way to look at it.

Where exactly in the Bible does it say you don't get your wings if you take your own life? But I agree that the this song does seem to be about suicide.

10 Years – All Your Lies Lyrics 15 years ago
The lyric "I should have made your mind up for you" is actually totally incorrect. It's "Bend the truth 'til you can't find it (find it). Twist your lies 'til you don't mind them (mind them)"

I do see a much deeper spiritual meaning to this and many other 10 Years songs. This song, along with it's predecessor on the album, "Picture Perfect" are very deep and the haunting precursor lyrics at the end of "Picture Perfect" allude to the true depth and meaning of "All Your Lies". Written almost as a letter:

Pay attention, pay attention, pay attention please! He who lusts through life for excess in this world dies a lonely man, careless of his soul, throwing caution to the wind with foolish ignorance. You're full of pride and arrogance. You can't accept the nearing end of this short lived life.

You fail to mention your intnetions, fail to mention why, your actions in life contradict your words. Th epath on which you walk, a line of no remorse. Washing conscience from the skin, claiming innocense. You ignore the signs. You bend the truth until you can't find it. You twist your lies until you don't mind them.

You smile and give a toast. You brag and you boast. You try to fool the world with all of your lies. But a parasite's host never even knows. You try to pull the wool over our eyes. Walk the line and pay the price: A pound of flesh for paradise. From craddle to grave, you chose to trade a pound of flesh for paradise. Now you will wear the wounds of your demise.

This song is almost a surmon.

10 Years – Waking Up The Ghost Lyrics 15 years ago
@Bodom: I somewhat agree, but I think it goes further than a single incident. I think it's a deeper reflection of the general condition of man. We have so many things happen to us throughout our entire lives (the ghosts) and as we mature we have two paths we can go down: redemption or condemnation. If we choose redemption, we experience a forgiveness, a weight lifted off of our shoulders (alluding to Fade Into later on the album). If we choose the latter, condemnation, then there's no hope for us. The "soul of the guilty", the "lies", the "sin" that eats us alive... I think he (the subject of the song) is trying to wake the ghosts, to dig up the memories of the evil that's been done to him, and get closer to the enemy inside: himself. He's looking for redemption.
