St. Vincent – The Party Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about life or a relationship that went by to quik "Honey, the party, you went away quickly but oh, that's the trouble with ticking and tocking" but it could also mean that lifetime went to quik "but oh, that's the trouble with ticking and tocking" and "I lick the ice cubes from your empty glass
Oh, we've stayed much too late 'til they're cleaning the ashtrays" means tryin to capture a piece of the past and try to save it.

"Do you have change or a button or cash? Oh, my pockets hang out like two surrender flags Oh, but I'd pay anything to keep my conscience clean keeping my eye on the exits, steady now" means she'd give anything to go back to happier and innocent times "but I'd pay anything to keep my conscience clean" and now she's at the end of her life "keeping my eye on the exits, steady now"

"How did we get here? with cHow did we get here? with creaks in these chairs oh there aren't enough hands to point all the fingers" means how did she make it that far with all the problems she has been through, problems being the "creaks in these chair" but there's no one to blame but herself
