In my opinion, this is a song that's truly concerning the outside world. I think the song is an observation of a marked lack of understanding of the outside world - we're busy people, with busy jobs and a lot of people think of cities as being the sum total of reality without any regard to the natural cycles of things. I think this is a song that's asking us to "go outside" and "break bread" with nature... tadpoles and bean-sprouts. |

"....that the difference between the sprout and the bean - it is a golden ring" the sun. Sprouts have access to the sun. Beans do not. "it is a twisted string" .. beans trail on trellises, string is often used. Ever see a trellis made of string that's been around for a few years? Twisted is a very, very applicable word. Beans don't need trellises. Only sprouted bean plants do. So, the difference between the sprout and the bean is also why she becomes big-boned and fay - the sun. When it goes away, she becomes ugly and boring. Maudlin. When there is no sun, the bean does not sprout. |
