@[kingmikeking:4451] No I think it is about slavery. Which there was in New Orleans. About how he (the poet) lost his soul in selling those of others.

Bob Dylan – Black Diamond Bay Lyrics 9 years ago
The last stanza, about sitting home in LA watching old Cronkite, is obviously about how we become inured to the global tragedies played out on the nightly news.

The song itself, updated for more modern times, seems about the Port Royal earthquake that destroyed that entire city and left it largely forgotten in modern times.

Ronnie Wood of the Stones does an amazing cover of this on the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary live album

No, its based on Ozzy's own experiences with alcoholism

U2 – Love Rescue Me Lyrics 14 years ago
I think, from the tone of the lyrics in general, that the part about the rod and staff no longer comfort me is not about turning away from religion, but turning against those who use it to justify violence and oppression.

Ozzy Osbourne – Suicide Solution Lyrics 14 years ago
No, idiot! It's about alcoholism, and how it is a slow, unwitting form of suicide.

Cat Stevens – Sad Lisa Lyrics 14 years ago
Like Bob Dylan's best songs, it defies easy explanation, and is left to the listener as to determine the true meaning.

Cat Stevens – I Wish, I Wish Lyrics 14 years ago
It is clear from the lyrics of his songs that he was searching for a deeper meaning all along.

Cat Stevens – But I Might Die Tonight Lyrics 14 years ago
It's reflective of the 60's-70's era in which it was written; the pressure to conform to the expectations of the older generation and its meaning of success, versus the youthful yearning for meaning and experience.

U2 – When Love Comes To Town Lyrics 14 years ago
No, sorry its about religion. About manipulation and meaningless relationships, before redemption.

U2 – When Love Comes To Town Lyrics 14 years ago
Maybe because he didn't write an of it, that it was rather written for him?

U2 – Bullet The Blue Sky Lyrics 14 years ago
Let's see...the worst massacre by a gun-wielding maniac...maybe 30, 40 victims? The worst massacre by a gun-banning government...6-10 million victims?

U2 – Love Rescue Me Lyrics 14 years ago
It's more a rejection of the Old Testament concept of God as a vengeful, petty patriarch, in favor of a redemptive, forgiving being - "the ruins to the right of me, will soon have lost sight of me".

Bob Dylan – With God on Our Side Lyrics 14 years ago
Aw fer...jeez, people, this is one of Bob's few songs that is actually transparent; he is writing about the experience of growing up in America, and how history is taught with the traditional slant (at least at the time he, and I, were growing up). How the victors write the history books, and that sort of thing.
