| I remember an interview with Ben, and I think "Gone" came up. It is based in less romance than you think. Ben was writing songs in a hotel and was very sick. He was stuck on a sofa and began watching this multiple day event of a talk show like Maury. The topic was "Who is the daddy?" There was a woman on there that had a baby, and she said two men could be the father. One guy, a guy the woman hated, was this man who said I want to support you and the child even if it isn't mine. The other guy, the person the woman wanted to be the father, said it wasn't him and didn't want anything to do with her or the child. So the day arrived and the father would be revealed. Ben, as everyone, was rooting for the man who wanted to be this great father. Maury brought out the envelope, the crowd went silent and the father was.... neither man. Everyone was floored, and both men were gone from her life. | |
