It may have been "unexpectedly" to us, but maybe not those who knew Jimmy, and Jimmy himself? They might have known he didn't have long left. I do agree with what you say about those lyrics though. The way Jimmy sings it makes me thing he's almost doing an over the top impression of Matt. You know what he was like! :-) |

I agree with the posts stating that Jimmy committed suicide. I think he knew all along he was going to do it because he couldn't bare coping with the pain his heart condition was causing him any longer. Just look at some of the songs he wrote on the self-titled album, particularly the lyrics in Brompton Cocktail and Afterlife. Looking back after what's happened it seems like it should have been kind of obvious, it's like he wrote a few "goodbyes" so to speak. Lines like "I lost my final fight to disease, I feel that this is where it ends", "And I take my life tonight ’cause I have the right to die how I wanna" and "I'm not running away, been fighting this so long" suggest he'd been living with his sickness a long time and wanted out but he didn't want people to think suicide was him "running away", he wanted to go by his own admission, which in the end I think he did. But hey, I could be completely wrong! Either way, I love this song even if it does make me sad. |
