| Sharon Van Etten – You Didn't Really Do That Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Her voice is haunting, and it draws me in every time I listen to this song. The song is a beautiful enigma, and I can't seem to figure it out. Well, I imagine that she's reflecting on someone she loves, but that doesn't love her in quite the same way, or as deeply, though this person stays with her. The beloved doesn't trust the speaker, and probably doesn't trust him/herself to love, and the speaker is in denial, shock, and disappointment about it. That's why she asks, "You didn't really do that, did you?" and, "You didn't really mean that, did you?" The speaker doesn't want to believe that her beloved doesn't feel the same way. | |
