Breaking Benjamin – Breath Lyrics 14 years ago
The first time I have listened to this song was during the time that I was reading “The Great Gatsby” and I am certain that anyone who has done the same would agree that it really represents the relationship between Jay Gatsby and Daisy.

“Breath”, in my opinion, narrates the story about someone (we’ll say it’s a he) who is or at least was in love with another person (a she?) but by now it’s completely one-sided.
She knew about his feelings for her and played with them to her advantage; once she decided that she had nothing more to gain, or she found someone she deemed better than him, she simply left him without looking back. He, on the other hand, had done so many things for her and sacrificed so much; yet, nothing is ever enough. He therefore feels used and, most of all, heartbroken.

“Is it over yet?
I can’t win”

He sits there and wonders how there could be people out there that could do such horrid things.

“I know nothing of your kind
And won't reveal your evil mind”

He then tries to get her back, shoving everything he has done for her back in her face, but she keeps denying everything. And everytime he tries, he sees that even if she knows its true, she doesn’t feel any remorse for him; and that kills him inside.

“I see nothing in your eyes
And the more I see the less I like
Is it over yet?
In my head”

And the more she does that, the more he feels as if a piece of his heart has been hatched off. But he is determined to get her to admit it all.

“I'm waiting
I'm fading
Realize
Stop hiding”

His overall goal at this point is to not necessarily get her back and make her appreciate everything he has done for her, but that unless she proves that she has acknowledged all it, she would be haunted with her hurtful actions for the rest of her life. So, for the sake of compassion, he tells her to sacrifice that pride of her’s and save them both from haunting memories.

“So sacrifice yourself
And let me have what's left

You take the breath right out of me
And left a hole where my heart should be
You gotta fight just to make it through
'Cause I will be the death of you”

The first time I heard this song is while I was reading "The Great Gatsby", and I believe that anyone who has read the book and listened to this song would agree that it really represents the relationship between Jay and Daisy.

I think this song is about someone (we'll say a he) who is (or has been) in love with another person (a she?), but it's completely one-sided. She knows about his feelings and at some point has played with them to her advantage -- once she didn't need him anymore, or perhaps she found someone better, she left him. He meanwhile had done so many things for her and sacrificed so much, so he feels used and, most of all, heartbroken. He wants her to feel his pain, if only just a little, since he had lost so much over her.

Yet every time he sees/interacts with her, he realizes that she feels no remorse for what she has done to him.

He then goes on to vow that she will never be able to let that part of her past go, hence the verse: "Cause I will be the death of you".

Imogen Heap – Speeding Cars Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with you completely. I'm still going through with my boyfriend exactly what the singer is expressing (her side of the story anyway), and the moment I read the lyrics to this song I thought of him. It's a fantastic song that a lot of people may not truly understand, in the sense that if their partner cheated on them, they would say "I don't love you anymore, get out of my life", that sort of thing, unlike the person the singer is displaying.

Bryan Adams – I Will Always Return Lyrics 14 years ago
Everytime I hear this song, I think of someone chanting this song for his or her lover from a far far away land, wherever they are, telling them that he or she has no given up, is still committed, and will one day return and hold them in their arms. Its beautiful and romantic and, like josephius said, you can listen to this hundreds of times and not get sick of it (that's what I've been doing recently). I dunno why there aren't any more than three comments on this forum.... too gorgeous to be ignored, that's what I believe.

Ben Moody – Everything Burns - Ben Moody Feat. Anastacia Lyrics 14 years ago
Now that most people have expressed how they feel about Ben Moody, Anastacia, and Amy Lee (although she doesn't really have anything to do with the song), I believe it's time to focus on the song itself and what message its trying to send out or what the story's about.

My personal interpretation is that these lyrics are all about revenge. It's especially apparent in the chorus: "Til everything burns/While everyone screams/Burning their lies/Burning my dreams/All of this hate/And all of this pain/I'll burn it all down/As my anger reigns/Til everything burns". I agree with GreyscaleBluebird about the main character having been or being abused, though I won't necessarily be so quick to assume that the victim is a child. Adults feel and act the same way as children in these kinds of situations (perhaps they will react in a different way depending on the person). Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you are being abused, you won't want to talk about it because you feel ashamed; however, despite you not wanting anyone to know, there is a part of you that hopes someone will take off their mask ("Too consumed in their masquerade") and finally open their eyes to what is actually happening and do something about it and save the victim. But, until then, she will continue to sing and wish revenge on everyone.

Evans Blue – Cold (But I'm Still Here) Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is so powerful (especially with vocals) and full of meaning. It's amazing what poetry can do. Anyone who has lost the one they love -- potentially to another -- and would do anything to be with that person again can relate to this. Love it!

Paramore – Misery Business Lyrics 15 years ago
I'd personally say she's not letting him fall into that girl's hands anymore ('cause that girl's a bitch and nothing else), but I agree with you completely. Actually been in that almost exact situation myself (I being in the singer's shoes)... Puts a lot of power into you (and satisfaction) when you hear it, don't you think?

Incubus – Dig Lyrics 15 years ago
I love the double meaning of "We all have something that digs at us; at least we dig each other."

This song can be both representative of a friendship and a relationship. To always be there for each other through both the good times and the bad, and save each other from negative changes to one or the other's person. It's me and my bf's song, so to speak, because we have been through a lot together and yet we stuck by one another no matter how difficult it got. Wonderful, unique song!

SafetySuit – What If Lyrics 15 years ago
This song reminds me of how I believe my boyfriend felt a couple months ago. A lot of horrible things happened that led to a temporary break up between the two of us, yet although he and a lot of other people thought it would be best otherwise, we still kept in contact. He had many good intentions as to what to do, but he made a lot of bad decisions that ended up hurting the both of us, especially me. He didn't want anything to turn out the way it did; however, at the time, he made those bad decisions because they were what he thought he needed to do. He was afraid of losing me completely so he stated that he would rather just be friends than lose me; despite that being the ideal situation, that was not possible for me. He wanted to fix things, but he didn't know how, nor did he do anything that helped things go in that direction for a long time. But, through it all, he still deeply cared for me and was always there for me, just like I stayed by his side throughout all his headaches and times of need even though I was hurting and losing faith and trust in him.

What I'm trying to say is that the lyrics go so well with that past situation, for both parties, that I can understand where Safteysuit was coming from when they wrote this, if my comparison is correct (yes I changed the order of the lyrics a little to make it make sense):

"What if it makes you lose faith in me?
What if it makes you question every moment you cannot see?
And what if it makes you crash
And you can't find the key?
What if it makes you ask how you could let it all go?

And if this be our last conversation
If this be the last time that we speak for awhile
Don't lose hope and don't let go
Cause you should know

If it makes you sad...
What if what I want makes you sad at me?
And is it all my fault or can I fix it please?
Cause you know that I'm always all for you
Cause you know that I'm always all for you"

And yes, everything worked out in the end :)
