The song actually dose say "Chicago burst to life and your sweet smile remembers you" I took the phrase "your sweet smile remembers you" as if the person hasn't smiled in a long time and smiles again, it will be the same as before. Thus remembers is used to link the joy of the past and present together. |

| Lady GaGa – Judas Lyrics | 14 years ago |

You do have one meaning, but this song has two very different meanings. Much like Alejandro, the first meaning is about relationships, and the other- especially exemplified in the music video, is the idea that god dosen't love everyone equally. Judas is an evolution to her writing ability, where Alejandro needed a music video to develop its religious meaning, Judas is able to show that in the lyrics it self. The other meaning of Judas is love and forgiveness, and on a more religious note, well we will have to see the video to really see the deepest parts of the song, but I'm willing to bet a possible meaning is that a lot of Christan's are very much lost on their path to God. In the sense that the Church is betraying God's word but we cling to and love the church. Much in the sense that, I often say, "the god warrior" is misguided in calming "in the name of God" when in reality they are glorifying the devil, with their sinful speech and action. |

The following is credited to Andrew Steffey, as linked. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110415170921AAFq7S9 Its about love and forgiveness when you look at the lyrics as a whole. You could argue this is about falling in love with the wrong person (Judas instead of Jesus), but it goes much deeper than that. Believe it or not Gaga is a Christian rather you think she embodies it or not. The thing is she believes god loves everyone regardless of who they are. Let's break down the lyrics: In the first verse she says she will wash his feet (an old Christian practice) and asks that he be forgiven for the lies even after he betrays me. Basically even though such a horrid act he is still human and no one is perfect. In the second verse it goes on to say she could not "love a man so purely, even darkness forgave his crooked ways, I've learned love is like a brick, you can build a house or sink a dead body." She is referring to the idea that even the worst of acts can be repented for if he would of asked, forgiveness was right there waiting for him. Judas of course did not choose to repent, but out of remorse for his treachery he committed suicide. If he had not fell guilty to greed with his love (described as a brick) in Jesus, he could in a sense "build a house" (helping spread the word), but due to his selfish act felt so bad he returned his ransom and hung himself (the dead body sunk by a brick). Now we're to the bridge and this clarifies the entire meaning of the song. " In the most Biblical sense, I am beyond repentance Fame hooker, prostitute wench, vomits her mind But in the cultural sense I just speak in future tense Judas kiss me if offenced, Or wear an ear condom next time" The gospel said the son of man will go out as planned by god, "but woe the man who betrays the son of man. It would be better if he were not born." He in essence committed the ultimate sin, but here Gaga is speaking as if she is Marry Magdalene . According to the new testament Jesus cleansed her of 7 demons and was the first to see Jesus after his resurrection not to mention this former prostitute was a disciple saved by Jesus. Mary knew from personal experience forgiveness was there for anyone to acquire, therefore Gaga speaking as if she were Mary would treat Judas the same rather or not he repented for he is still a man and she cannot judge him. Playing on the fact Mary was a former prostitute we get the last line of the bridge where she is inferring that if you don't want to hear the truth (that we cannot judge Judas) then do not listen (get an ear condom). We have to remember though what Judas did was a horrid act, that in a biblical sense this had to happen. It's Christian belief. The bible tells us to love thy neighbor and that we are not to judge. We can't judge people for who they are, rather a different race, religion, or sexual orientation. That's the meaning of the song. Rather you agree by what she believes or not. Hope this helps explain it. |

| Spite her modern appearance, she's actually a very strong Catholic. (She went to a all girls catholic school) It's the same reason why she uses French in her lyrics (apparently, she knows perfect french) | |
| Marina and the Diamonds – Oh No! Lyrics | 15 years ago |

In a sense, all of reality is a subjective experience. If the song was more emotionally driven, then there would be more merit to claiming that there is no objective truth to this song. But, Marina said her self the whole album is about what it means to become famous, and its costs. The hole album is about striving to be famous, which most people prior unintentionally suggested it was unique to the song. The song's real intent is to express that her drive, what she knows to be true about her self, is more or less a delusion. This song really speaks of her awareness of not really knowing what she's doing, and why. Hence the irony. |

one more smile, one more bed This song isn't about a single man and woman. The girl in particular is every girl he has been with. Which is reinforced with the use of the word "they." He's done this over and over and never been able to show who he really was to the other. but wait, i swear its different cause im lonely He picks out these people swearing they are different, but this idea comes from his loneliness. the relationships he has been in where never able to grow because these perfect lines are, in a sense, a lie. I've done this exact same pattern in my relationships. The loneliness eats at you, and when you find someone even remotely a perspective mate, you hope that they are the one. It gets to the point where you disregard your true feelings (perfect lines that you're supposed to say) for the chance to be with someone. The title in particular says that "its about time" for them to move on (fly away) from this unhealthy pattern. It gives a sense that he is aware of this problem... but we delude our selves and fold our wings. One day... maybe. |

| Lady GaGa – Born This Way Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Her extensive religious references is purely sociological. Lady Gaga clearly has a bone to pick with the idea that homosexuality is a sin. If you think about it (and actually read the bible) its clear that its impossible for homosexuality to be a sin. I'm just going to get into it. kjv Ezekiel 16:48-50 "As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and they daughters. "Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, nether did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. "And they where haughty, and committed abominations before me: there fore I took them away as I saw good." Clearly the Lord GOD said exactly why he destroyed Sodom, yet not a single allusion towards homosexuality was made. I don't want to argue with what God, him self, said and claim that sodomite must mean homosexual. This in it self completely destroyed all arguments made my christens that homosexuality is a sin. It clearly is not. It appears that Lady Gaga believes so and assures that God made a gay man perfect just the way he is. I think it's clear that this issue is going to be pressed and honestly it scares me. I'm sure something will happen and if this idea that homosexuality is not a sin becomes accepted by the church... well what will that mean for Christianity? it's going to change a lot of things if this change really dose happen. BTW, sense when is orient a rascal slur? |

Inquiry: why dose no one point out that she say's "you're" twice in a row? It should be "I'm alone and you're, you're a man" Or is the falter part of the artistic license and not official lyrics? |

"I wince a little but its not because I know the truth" I think that line shows that the guy dosen't know that the relationship isn't going all too hot (pun intended) Because he says earlier he is cold to her. |

| Marina and the Diamonds – Numb Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Marina said her self that this song is about social awkwardness and the hole album is analyzing success. With those two points its easier to understand the chorus I feel numb most of the time, The more I get the higher, I'll climb, and I will wonder why, I get dark only, To shine. Looking for the golden light, Oh, it's a reasonable sacrifice. She is climbing the ranks of stardom and wonders "why" "I get dark" refers to her social standing with her family and friends- she dosen't have any traditional friends and she closed them out which she thinks is a reasonable sacrifice for working so hard to shine as a super star. but later she sings: And I'll light up the sky, Stars that burn the brightest, Fall so fast and pass you by, Spark like empty lighters. this basically gives us the "why?" she is asking. It questions what she actually got- she's lighting up the sky but who knows how long that will last- and it might just "pass you by" not be spectacular enough for it to have warranted the effort. |

There's a strong sense of an On-and-off-again relationship, in this song. She curses the guy when they are apart but she can't stay away. She knows the relationship works to a point but the cycle is waring her down cause she needs him closer than this relationship is allowing. In time, they fall apart but its hard to tell if its just a chapter in the story or if this brake up is the end because "here we are again." There is a component of love but the relationship is not pleasing and more hellish than anything else. A big part is how they can't refuse the others' need. He's there and receptive- there's really nothing she can do to resist. She won't say goodbye, how can she? |

| Marina and the Diamonds – Are You Satisfied? Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
@italiancarne You're mixing the two sides in this song. She's essentially having an argument with the people who said "Marina is a dreamer" Her point is that it's her life and its her problem to deal with. while the counterpoint she sees them making is "just be a normal average person and work at McDonnalds." And she poses the question "are you satisfied" with not reaching for your dreams. Its a lot easier to have a blue collar job than to be a rock star, doctor, lawyer, et cetera. |

Sigh, That was a pretty shallow analysis. The challenge with her writing is that she tends to speak in multiple voices and point of views. Se sometimes talks backwards in her meaning. Marina's song writing- or writing in general- is pretty complex and pretty distant from most cliche meanings. I'd love to see her attempt at writing a book. |

Another component, I feel that is essential, is that it's particularly aimed at people who told her she couldn't be famous and to "get real" She's saying to them "why are you telling me I shouldn't try to make this dream of mine a reality? Its my dream/my life. Are you satisfied with not aiming for a goal that might be deemed 'impossible' or hard to achieve?" Same thing can be said about wanting to be a lawyer or a doctor, et cetera. It really is pretty easy to make nothing out of your life. But would you be satisfied? |

| Marina and the Diamonds – I Am Not a Robot Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| depends on where it is. when it's shortly following "Guess what" its "I'm" other wise its "I am." After the "drum beat drop" there is a pause between "guess what" and "I am not a robot" | |
| Marina and the Diamonds – Shampain Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Another site said "laid dagger dead" but if you pay attention closely there isn't enough syllables in what she sings for that to be correct. The way she pronounces her words it's sometimes really hard to tell what she is saying. But your correction makes a lot more sense. Though it makes it sound like a suicide song. dose "Hole inside my head" refers to a bullet wound? Consistency is questionable with that interpretation. |

Yes, I was aware that the chorus was being ironic. There's a fairly obvious contradiction between the voice in the chorus and the voice giving the moralistic views. I like how you point out "Acceptance of failure and consciousness of death are the impossible acts for the mentality set out in this song." I applaud you sir! |
