Wow, thanks for that, this song makes much more sense when I think of it this way. I ought to have seen that before, don't know why I didn't. It's nice to find a fellow trencher, eh? I personally connect with the lines "You wrote me a note/ The pages were blank/ And I, I should have known/ Invisible ink," because I find this is a great description of how I had my eyes "opened" to the world of creative, abstract, critical thinking which so many people are blinded to. I find that I can put myself in the narrators shoes and the song makes more sense that way, as I often find that I am holed up in my own trenches, trying desperately to make others (those whom the narrator is hiding from) understand that they aren't seeing the whole picture. As a college student, I find it disheartening that many of my classmates assume that they've figured it out, that they've already seen all there is to see, when they don't realize that what they're seeing is just the blank page, and the real message is written in invisible ink. It's quite sad, but then again I think that our education system is to blame for that. |
