Taking Back Sunday – This Photograph Is Proof (I Know You Know) Lyrics 14 years ago
Personally, this song stands out from a lot of what TBS have written, because it reminds me of a hard time I went through in my life. I had an ex who had said a lot of mean, hurtful things to me, and when we broke up and he got a new girlfriend, and both of them sent me messages telling me I was fat and ugly and useless, which lead to me having an eating disorder. The part "you're noticing nothing again
Now I'm lying on the table
with everything you said
keep that in mind the way that it felt
when the most I could do was to just blame myself" especially means a lot to me, because to me, it means "you were never around after that to notice what I because and how my behavior changed, and I doubt that you'd care if you were there. I don't think you expected that to happen, or for me to react that way, but I did, and I thought about those words for ages, and I still do".
When it says "it will all catch up eventually
well, it caught up and honestly
the weight of my decisions
were impossible to hold
but they were never yours
they were never yours" to me means "it was bound to happen, and I guess it could have gone better, but something bad was bound to happen, and it's no one else's fault but mine because yeah, you said that stuff to me, but I doubt your intentions were to make me so ill". It upsets me everytime I hear it, because it's just so personal to me

Pink – Fucking Perfect Lyrics 14 years ago
This song always makes me shiver when I hear it/read the lyrics, because I see so many girls everyday who despise themselves, and have developed eating disorders (myself being one. It shouldn't be this way; there are so many beautiful women in the world, and it upsets me that they don't even notice their beauty.

The Dresden Dolls – Half Jack Lyrics 14 years ago
It's about how, growing up, she felt a lot closer to her mother than her father. She is proud to be a part of her mother, but her father was possibly abusive towards her and her mother, therefore she wants to remove all traces of him from herself, but obviously it cannot be done.
I can relate to this song a lot, as I have a much closer relationship to my mother than my father.
When she says "i see my mother in my face
but only when i travel
i run as fast as i can run
but
jack comes tumbling after", it reminds me of me and my mum, cos everyone says I look exactly like her, and have some of her traits :) Although, I guess there are still parts of me that are similar to that of my father, only I try too much to not focus on that.

Pink – Family Portrait Lyrics 15 years ago
This song brings back a lot of memories, because I've been through a similar thing with my family growing up. I'm 16 now and it's still not perfect, but then again, what is perfect?
It's written from her own perspective as a little girl growing up who had to witness her parent's divorce and almost hatred for one another. She feels as though she's to blame, for not being a perfect daughter, when in fact, it wasn't her fault but the fact that her parents simply weren't meant to be together.

Pink – Fucking Perfect Lyrics 15 years ago
She's saying it from the point of view of someone who's watching, or grown up watching, someone very close to them resent themselves. They can't seem to understand that the person they see as being utterly perfect in every way despises themselves that much, and seems to have such a huge vendetta against themselves.
The person who's point of view it's written from, wants the other to know that everyone makes mistakes and everyone goes through a hard time and that everyone deals with things in their own way, but maybe from personal experience they know that self harm isn't the right way out of this. Sadly, many people do self harm, and I did too shamefully, but now I understand that you can't please everyone in life, and just because you don't fit in with a certain group of people, doesn't mean that you should doubt yourself as being anything other than perfect. I think what she's trying to say is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, meaning that everyone has different perceptions of "beauty", and in the same way, everyone has a different perception of "perfection", therefore you shouldn't change yourself to fit in with others, or despise yourself because you're not like them. Sometimes something so tragic not only affects you, but others around you. As shown in the video, she self harms because she despises the person she is, and wants desperately to be like the others, but in the end you see her happy with her man, and she says the exact same thing to her daughter, as was said to her.

Emilie Autumn – I Didn't Mean You (Poem) Lyrics 15 years ago
She has been raised to not let anyone in, she has built a wall around herself to stop people from seeing her for who she really is. It's always pushed people away and they've never come back and it doesn't really bother her.
As she's pushed people away all her life, when she finds someone worth keeping, she doesn't know how to handle it and thinks that because they claim to love her, they'll always come back to her. So she does to them exactly what she's always done to everyone else: pushed them way.
Yet they actually stayed away. Her plan backfired and she's regretting treating them the way she did because in her eyes they were worthy of keeping, she just wanted to give them a challenge. They never came back to her..

Emilie Autumn – Gothic Lolita Lyrics 15 years ago
It's talking about how she was raped as a child by someone older than her, yet she sees like the more mature one for having to accept what happened to her and get on with life, whilst even though they're older, they're selfish for hurting her for their own personal pleasure. "I'm older than you'll ever be. I've been dead a thousand years and lived only two or three"- this shows how after it happened she felt as though she had been killed, and as she was only a child, she had only a few years of her childhood lived.

"The kind of murder where nobody dies, but I don't suppose you'd understand"

She goes on in a sarcastic manner, to thank them for making her the wreck she is to this day. Since that moment she has tried to show human feelings towards other people, but feels paranoid and as though she cannot trust anyone because of how she was taken advantage of in the past.

Emilie Autumn – Castle Down Lyrics 15 years ago
To me, this is about a relationship where the two people trust each other completely. But one day, one lets the other fall and the cracks in the relationship are shown; he is not what she once thought of him to be.
She's taken him back and "tearing her castle down" is reference to destroying all the trust they one had. She knows that he will fail her once again and she will have to help herself back up "You have watched as I pull myself from the floor... Trying to balance all that I had left with what I didn't have anymore"

Emilie Autumn – Thank God I'm Pretty Lyrics 15 years ago
This is DEFINITELY one of my favourite of her songs :')
At the start she's saying how it's good to be pretty because of all the admirers you gain and attention you receive. Later on though, she goes on to mention how as she may have once enjoyed the attention, but in the end, the way she acted ended up getting her raped.
At first she's saying how it's great to be beautiful because you can get what you want, and towards the end she's saying how she wishes she wasn't god looking, because it's brought more pain than pleasure.
This song is so sarcastic, it makes me smile :') "it's lucky I hate to be taken seriously", as an example of her sarcasm.

Emilie Autumn – Never Tasted Tears (Poem) Lyrics 15 years ago
She was with someone and had a good relationship with them, as they worshipped her, yet she treated them like crap and they walked away. But she always thought that they'd never leave, so she could treat them however she wanted. They walk away and start a new life and is happy with someone else, whilst she's now broken and missing them.
Then one day she gets with someone else and they mean everything to her, or so it would seem. Even though both of them have moved on physically, as he has emotionally, she hasn't and she admits that she appears happy to other people but deep inside she isn't- "But there is something tragic in this scene
Which may appear as joyous to the eye of anyone who witnesses myself bound in the arms and lips of my new friend"

Emilie Autumn – Little Boy (Poem) Lyrics 15 years ago
It shows how she was raped as a child, at a very early age.
The person who "stole" her innocence was probably a close friend of hers, whom she has known since her childhood and she grew up with them.
She's blaming herself for the way they treated her, and said that it's hard to trust people now because of that one first experience.

Emilie Autumn – Goodbye (Poem) Lyrics 15 years ago
This is my favourite EA poem, for the fact that I can relate to this completely right now.
She's blaming herself for a failed past relationship, saying that if she'd been more honest and open it wouldn't have ended. The person claimed to love her, yet left so easily, it hurt her more than anything else they could have possibly done to her.
She's unsure of if she should move on with her life as they have, or still wait around for them to return to her.

Emilie Autumn – Ghost (Poem) Lyrics 15 years ago
First time I heard this, I thought of a child who is neglected by their parents ans so creates a character in their head, who is their only friend. Eventually she subconsciously lets go of this person, but misses them at the same time.
The more I thought about it, it seemed to be about an ex lover? She doesn't understand the fascination they had with her, yet enjoys their company. Soon they leave and even though she knows they're gone, she still leaves them a place in her heart, because she feels certain that they will return.
Either way, I think the theme is insecurity and loneliness, and I can relate 100000% to both reasons I've given.

Emilie Autumn – Save You Lyrics 15 years ago
To me, it's saying how she loves someone that much, that she can't stand by and watch them be hurt by her. or be victim to her. She has low self esteem and believes that she's going to continue hurting that person if she stays with them. Her lover worships them but she's saying how they could do much better, and they've been through so much that they should understand that she's not right for them. At least that's what it's like to me.
