| Davian - that 'run your claw' line always bothered me as I was looking for a tender interpretation and the language seemed too coarse, your interpretation makes perfect sense. | |

FM radio is a metaphor for (the cliche, or imaginary situation) when a guy treats a girl right. She gets in the right mood and ... well she don't mind what happens ... no problems (static)- The girls don't seem to care tonight As long as the mood is right. No static at all |

As with a lot of songs this one gives me an overall feeling which can’t necessarily be derived word for word, or symbol for symbol, from the lyrics. It seems to be fundamentally religious with a warning of the judgement to come and advising of the need to lead a righteous life. The thief and the joker are possibly dual aspects of personality which belong to everyone. All sin is theft (I think someone once said that) so the thief is the sinner in us all and perhaps represents the analytical and calculating side of human nature. The joker is perhaps that aspect which wants to waste time on pleasures, frivolities and ephemera. The song could be someone talking to himself as much as to someone else. The joker is confused and troubled by the way the world treats him and is looking for sympathy. The thief advises him that we all know the score so he should wise-up and not kid himself that there are any easy options, but rather to do what is required for salvation — behave righteously. The last section reminds us that while life appears to go on as normal, outside our imagined security there is the impending danger of the inevitable judgement. |
