Yeah, reads to me as a rant against critics of their work. "I'm in a part of your dreams that you don't even understand" is a fantastic line, perhaps one of my favourite R.E.M. lyrics. Full of swagger and arrogance because they have nothing to prove. |

This song is a follow-up to "Houston" from the "Accelerate" album and charts the return of that song's protagonist to New Orleans after the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina to help with rebuilding.
The line "the storm didn't kill me, the government changed" is a re-writing, and the most obvious link to "Houston" which started with the lyric "if the storm doesn't kill me, the government will." |
