| My only question is what songs are tracks six and seven? | |
| Superchunk – Detroit Has a Skyline Lyrics | 13 years ago |
My interpretation is that it's about a guy who screws up a relationship when he becomes infatuated by another woman because of her "skyline." When it doesn't work out, he realizes that his original lover had everything he saw in the other woman. It's kind of a grass-is-always-greener analogy. I have certainly made such moronic choices in my life so the song resonates for me. I love it. |

| Japandroids – For The Love Of Ivy Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This is a cover of a song by The Gun Club from the early-'80s. They changed one lyric: "I was hunting for answers down in the dark." The previous lyric contained racist profanity. I think it was a wise change. That line always bothered me. | |
| Superchunk – Learned to Surf Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I think this is a metaphor about control. The ocean is so huge and powerful, swimming against the current is a futile exercise so why not use its force to your advantage? | |
| Scud Mountain Boys – Glass Jaw Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The last line of the first verse refers to the fighting: "My lip that you split wide" |
| Scud Mountain Boys – Massachusetts Lyrics | 14 years ago |
On the underside of Massachusetts Splintered by an empty freighter car That strafes my deepest fear I could never leave you Massachusetts Like water draining out of A reservoir not half a mile from here Underneath the cover of the marshes Is where I buried my best words To last 100,000 years I could never leave them in Massachusetts Like water draining out A reservoir not half a mile... Who are you to tell me? Who are you to tell me? Who are you to try and lead me From a place you never even came? |
| Scud Mountain Boys – Lift Me Up Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The central pun of the song is that in his wretched state the main character asks Joe (Pernice?) for a lift and Joe thinks he wants a ride. This leads to the line, "I don't need a ride, I'm trying to say I'm dying. Lift me up." |

| Scud Mountain Boys – Van Drunk Lyrics | 14 years ago |
First line: I was unhappy to hear you'd been wasted Third verse: Who was there when you knew for sure the world would disappear? |
| Scud Mountain Boys – Big Hole Lyrics | 14 years ago |
But isn't there someone you can call? Isn't there anyone but me? 'Cause I got a need of a couple Friends if they haven't split yet. |
| Scud Mountain Boys – Big Hole Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| "Drag me out from my bits of cotton dream?" | |
| Scud Mountain Boys – Penthouse in the Woods Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| "We were an archetype," not "We were a marked type." | |
| Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – The Mighty Sparrow Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This makes me think of the opening scene in "Children of Men" when the cafe explodes. It's very literal, but I'm not very deep. | |
