Static-X – Love Dump Lyrics 3 years ago
While I understand how one can come to the conclusion of scat, the song is more likely about a drug addiction. Specifically the times of someone on the drug versus the polarizing times when they aren\'t. \n\nThe "I can\'t believe I\'m letting you do this to me" line from the feminine voice which is repeated is just before they "partake" in the drug. Even after having instance where they\'ve likely said "no more", they\'re not demanding to be given a line, getting more and more agitated each time they have to repeat their desire for a line. \n\nThe line comparing shit to chocolate cake and ass smelling like a rose is reference to common trope where guys naively believing that women don\'t poop or fart, but rather their butt releases rainbows and sparkles. These lines can give the idea of a relationship of sorts, but it could easily be a metaphor comparing the drug to immature boy-ish thoughts of a girl -- the drug can do no wrong. \n\nThe song goes on to discuss how the person feels when the drug has worn off. The line about bowels aching, reminds me of those painful poops where you pray/promise to a higher power, saying if you can get through this painful poop, you\'ll be a better person in some fashion. But we all know that the moment you get relief, those promises become empty and you go right back to the original person you were. \n\nFurthermore, it would be strange to include the "I can\'t believe I\'m letting you do this to me" line regarding scat as the person doing the consuming typically would not say anything of the sort. Additionally the other person involved would likely be encouraging the person in some fashion, not questioning their decision. At face value, I can understand how one could get to this conclusion, but there\'s portions of the song that go against this idea. At best, maybe analingus.

Bill Withers – Use Me Lyrics 4 years ago
The song can be interpreted multiple ways, but the consistent theme is bilateral use. Person A uses Person B just as Person B is using person A. The last lines of the song make it clear. He clearly doesn't mind being used because he's also using the person to do the "things" they do.
More interesting, just before saying this, he makes note that one needs to be aware as to how they use someone as whether the use is good or bad simply depends.

Though I will say then when I was younger, I saw this song as a very underlined sexual song. In my young male mind, I envisioned a guy being used almost purely as a sexual object for a female, but in public she frequently belittled him for her personal enjoyment. In the guy's mind, he didn't care because he knew what was soon to come. Again, just another case of bilateral using.

Coheed and Cambria – Welcome Home Lyrics 4 years ago
Claudio has gone on record in an interview in 2017, stating that the song is about what he thought was the end of a relationship with a woman. The song is about the ups and downs of their relationship. Claudio went on to stay that the different the tones he uses were to symbolize the different jarring personalities inside him throughout all these times. He later married the woman.

Candlebox – You Lyrics 5 years ago
[BACKSTORY] In an interview, Kevin Martin (front man for Candlebox) stated that the song is about himself when he was younger and dependent on drugs. He'd frequently steal money from his parents to buy drugs. On his 18th birthday, Kevin saw Midnight Oil and Peter Garrett which lead Kevin to ultimately quit drugs right then.
Though he's later noticed that he didn't/doesn't consider and natural and organic to be drugs, ie marijuana and mushrooms.

[SONG MEANING] Kevin realizes that drugs are controlling him and the song is his way of say "no more".

Throughout the song, Kevin mentions things he did to obtain drugs, as well as personifies drugs as well. You really get a sense of the struggle that led to him ultimately quitting drugs.

Stone Temple Pilots – Sex Type Thing Lyrics 6 years ago
Scott has explained that the song is about rape from the viewpoint of a rapist who's attempting to justify his actions ("you shouldn't have worn that dress"). The song was meant to speak out against date rape, but the message was lost in the music.
Scott went on to say that is disappointed and even angered him when the song was played and fans would mosh.

Slipknot – Solway Firth Lyrics 6 years ago
The band has mentioned in interviews that the Solway Firth in question is NOT referring to the body of water between England and Scotland, but rather the Solway Firth Spaceman photograph. The main point is that the story of how the spaceman came to appear in the Solway Firth Spaceman image was a lie (fraud).
This led into Corey explaining that the song is about being the person everyone else wants you to be rather than being yourself. They don't need anyone to understand why they are the way they are or show them how to be someone they're not. They simply want to be themselves in a 'take it or leave it' type manner.

It's been speculated that the band is referring to the media and others wanting them to be something other than themselves, but, to date, the band has not confirmed nor denied this idea.

Sugar Ray – Every Morning Lyrics 7 years ago
Originally everyone thought the song was about the angelic girlfriend taking off her halo and being less trusting to point of cheating on a consistent basis. As the singer has realized this, he begins to use the halo to do the same, cheat.
The song ends, every night with the woman returning to have sex with the singer for the sole purpose of making him simply accept her infidelities via sex.

Mark McGrath stated it's far more than this. The song is referring to a very kinky sex act known as pegging and the halo is a condom. Mark very discretely and subtly describes being pegged, but wait it gets worse. The woman decides to re-use the aforementioned condom to cover her sex toy. Oh yeah, and the woman IS also cheating on him.

...Seemingly fairly "innocent" childhood song completely ruined!

Chris Cornell – You Know My Name Lyrics 7 years ago
The song's meaning is very simple whether you want to relate it to the movie or see it as a standalone song.
When you're in the world, know that you're ultimately alone. Trust no one and know that everyone, including yourself, can be easily replaced.
While I can elaborate from there, there's really no need. James Bond or simple unrelated listening and the message is the same.

KoЯn – Freak on a Leash Lyrics 7 years ago
In an interview Jonathan David stated that Freak on a Leash was his "song that rails out against the music industry." He goes on to explain how he felt like a prostitute and felt as if the music industry was parading him around like a circus freak. He goes on to explain that Got The Life has the same idea.
This is basically Korn's "Have a Cigar" (popular song by Pink Floyd).

I would go on, but I think from this point you can look at the lyrics and see the way they feel; famous but still paraded around for the enjoyment of others.

Mudvayne – Have It Your Way Lyrics 8 years ago
I've been trying for a couple days to find some alternative meaning for this song. If there is one, I've yet to discover or have it cross my mind. All signs point to this song because about Former US Pres. Bush Jr. It makes references to his father as well as his actions. Now, of course, we can say this applies to other leadership type figures who gained control shortly after their father was in control, but when you look at how the song plays with calling this person incompetent, looking for acceptance from his father as well as cleaning up "his mess", mixing religion with war, "the world [trade center] is fallin down", as well as "the things we don't see on the TV", this entire song simply screams George W Bush Jr.

This song can easily be seen as a huge F-U to Bush Jr.
Tell us how you really feel, Chad.

Foo Fighters – Best Of You Lyrics 9 years ago
When I originally heard this song years ago, I understood it as "Is someone getting the best side of you". Rather after really listening to the lyrics, it's more on the lines of someone getting the best of you, as in getting one over on you. As in besting someone on; defeating or taking advantage of someone.
In my interpretation, the song is about someone taking advantage of you, and it's very obvious in the second line when he says "I'm your fool".
At the end, he realizes this when he says "I'm no fool." He's done being taken advantage of.

Maybe I'm taking the song title for face value, but to me, it's about misconceptions. Misconceptions that we fail to inquire on or correct others about until it's too late.

Tool – Schism Lyrics 10 years ago
@[ShaunStatic:4250] Umm your "definition" is more of an instance or example rather than definition. Schism is best defined as a split or breaking of 2 groups who strongly oppose each other in regards to an opinion OR belief.
It doesn't just fall under religion or government, it can be virtually ANYTHING.

That being said, this sound can be about near anything... a relationship between 2 people, nations at war, church and state, 2 forms of government, the people and state, and on and on. The last line, or 2 lines, lead me to believe it's two people once in a relationship, but that's simply MY understanding of the song.

Inner Circle – La Long Lyrics 11 years ago
The song's about anal sex.
"Looking in your big brown eye", brown eye is slang but butt-hole.

Anal sex isn't a quick slide in kind of thing, hence the "push it push it some more". The crying is obviously because it hurts, but he doesn't say a thing about her trying to escape, running away, or fighting it, she's simply in pain, thus it's likely NOT about rape. But simply a couple having anal sex.
The sweating, well it's common to sweat during sex. It's also common to sweat when your body is under strain.

Was that so hard boys and girls?

On a side note, I can't help but laugh when I see girls running to the dance floor when this song comes on.

Sade – No Ordinary Love Lyrics 11 years ago
It sounds like a one sided relationship. She gives him her all, but he's not. He MAY be giving her some, but it's obvious that he could give so much more but he simply is not.

It goes back to the 100/100 love thing. Love is between two people giving themselves as a whole. So to say it's 50/50 is incorrect, because it should be 100/100, as in 100% from each. 50/50 meaning both are giving equally, 100/100 meaning both are giving their all. Meaning even if one can only give [X] and the other can only give [Y] at most, it's their all and that's all that counts.

The lyrics are pretty straight-forward

Stone Sour – Absolute Zero Lyrics 11 years ago
Though I understand where you're coming from "____ is a four letter word" is a phrase that simply means whatever is put into the blank is considered to be the 4 letter word. The 4 letter word is typically a profane word or something simple offensive, but no specific 4 letter word.

It may be in reference to "People = Shit" but it's origins are that the four letter word is not anything specific, but should be assumed to be very negative or offensive.

Foo Fighters – Everlong Lyrics 11 years ago
The way I see it, it's the moment after you've just done something REALLY exciting and extremely fun with someone (best friend or significant other). That second right when things start to come to an end and you briefly sit there waiting for the next moment like that. It's simply wanting that moment of bliss to last forever.

Yeah umm, if you need the meaning for this song you're a bit shallow. The lyrics spell it out pretty plain and clear. The only question is WHO took his money or screwed him out of money?

Blue October – The Answer Lyrics 15 years ago
It's a pretty simple meaning and you don't have to be stricken to understand, you just have to have been there before.
It's about being in love with someone, sharing your every intimate thoughts that make you you, putting out all your flaws and things that make you human. Things that people slowly let out over time he's telling her these things all at once because he greatly feels that this person is the one.

He basically says he wants to marry her "I've got this tattoo of a ring...and thats where I want to state this claim."

Then it gets to the end and she says he's not the one in her heart. Kinda sad.
