MGMT – Siberian Breaks Lyrics 15 years ago
This isn't about the lyrics but about the song in general. Essentially it's 3 songs stitched together. Well it could be seen as that - there are distinct stops. But I think the point about having this monolith 12 minute song in the middle is to emphasise the fact that this album has so much to offer. If it were 3 separate "sensibly" lengthed songs it would be easy to skip them and not engage with them. This song is like a symbol for the whole album. It needs listening. In the age of spotify and music downloads at our fingertips it's so easy to not engage in music and just take the music for what you expect from it. You want 3 minutes, you want the chorus to repeat, you don't want to be surprised. But it's like a kid who wants sweets but his parents give him vegetables. This album is good for you in the end. And that's why I love it.
ANYWAY, sorry about that.

Dirty Projectors – Beautiful Mother Lyrics 15 years ago
perhaps it's about humpback whales (someone, somewhere said that this album was a conversation between amber and a whale) that sing during mating season - all the whales in one particular area sing the same song that is constantly evolving, but they always keep up on the trend of how the song has changed. It takes a few years for all of the elements of the song to change into a completely different song. It's a loose-ish connection but the swimming together and singing together and the "listen to a new song" and the apparent concept of the album seems to reflect this little fact about humpback whales!

Dirty Projectors – My Offwhite Flag Lyrics 15 years ago
I would say it's definitely about sexual... not sexual failure but maybe feeling limp, unused, unwanted maybe. I love how it starts with "copping a feel of the wall" as this perversion dominates his life. And also how he is either too old - "retired" and the possible erectile disfunction of his limp off-white flag; or too young - "I am a child and I'm not ready".
